Select Rogers Plus stores to open early coast-to-coast on July 11
Launch promotions to include limited time 6GB data offer

TORONTO, July 9 /CNW/ - In anticipation of iPhone 3G launch on July 11,
Rogers Wireless today announced plans to open the doors of select Rogers Plus
retail stores across Canada in advance of regular hours. Starting at 8:00 am
July 11, Canadians will be able to purchase the new iPhone 3G at special
launch day events to be held at six Rogers Plus stores across the country. Be
among the first in Canada to get the next generation iPhone 3G and have the
choice of a 6GB data plan through a limited time promotional price offer.
"As Canada's leading wireless carrier, Rogers is excited to bring iPhone
3G to Canadians even sooner, allowing our customers to be amongst the first in
the world to experience this amazing mobile innovation," says John Boynton,
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless. "To
celebrate its launch on Canada's fastest wireless network, we're rolling out
the red carpet with special events at six Rogers Plus stores and a limited
time price promotional data offer from coast-to-coast."
iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G
networking that is twice as fast(*) as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS
for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which
includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of
third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.

------------------------
The following Rogers Plus stores in these cities will open their doors at
8:00 a.m. (all times local) on Friday, July 11 for advance purchases of the

This will definitely make a few more people happy (although I am sure people will still complain). My faith in public complaining has been restored. I wonder if Apple will look at selling the iphone in store now (because from what I have heard they weren't going to in Canada).

get ANY voice plan for $30 dollars and it beats the 150minutes plus you get 6GB of data for $30

I think you can make your custom plan a bit more,
Considring that it costs 100$ for 6gb and most expensive Iphone plan is 115$ for 2GB

so a lot of users can add the

30$ -6gb Data plan
11$ - caller Id + Voice Mail
25-35$ - Decent Voice Plan (either My5+5 or unlimited incomming etc)

----- + System fees and 9.11 and Tax ---

Over all can make this a better bundle :)

Can you add the data onto any plan that is greater than $30? I initially thought the voice only part had to be more than $30 but if it is the whole package (ie adding on texts, voicemail etc.) that is good.

Wow, only $67.45.. I would love your plan! I wish AT&T had unlimited text for $10 and I don't really even need the $30 unlimited data plan that's required.. I've only used 2GB of data over the whole 12 months I've owned my iPhone.

My plan is a whopping $119/month. I get 900 minutes, and unlimited text/data.. text plans in US are outrageous.

well normal customers only get 2500 texts for $10 but if you threaten to cancel Rogers they offer Unlimited for $10 Dollars to keep you on...

Also the $30 dollars for 6GB can be added to ANY VOICE PLAN...

so you get a voice plan for $20-?

folks, let's not get too excited just yet ... we have no confirmation of the following:

1) can iphone "value packs" be added onto a voice plan + promo pricing (6 gb) package or will iphone users be forced to the lower value, regular "value" packs that have up to this point been available for other phones?

2) is visual voicemail included with this $30 data "promo"?

questions, questions ... although this is now looking more promising for canadians ...

incredible news people...a victory even!

totally worth it...6 GB is pretty much unlimited. Without tethering, I'd like to see someone go over that on an iPhone.

So, what's the BEST voice plan (i.e. best deal!) for a new robbers customer?

kthacher
Jul 9, 2008, 10:38 AM
I think this is a modest victory and that consumers should continue the pressure. These crooks are still requiring a three year plan - this iPhone will be obsolete way before then. Limited time offer is another cynical lie - there are lots of people that cannot buy at launch because they are on plans that lock them into other devices for a while. Do they really intend to kill demand after the 31'st? These people just don't know how to be straight with their customers. Pathetic.

oh man...Telus didn't take the bad news so well...
Since June 23rd I've been a free agent...contract expired.

Phone conversation went as follows:

Me: "I'd like to cancel my subscription".

Salesguy: "What? Why?"

Me: "iPhone".

Salesguy: "But Macs suck. They're not as reliable as PCs".

Me: "?"

Salesguy: "Are you aware that your monthly fees will quadruple with the iPhone?".

Me: "No, they won't quadruple"

Salesguy: "What specifically is drawing you to the iPhone?"

Me: "I don't know?"

Salesguy: "The HTC touch is 3 megapixels".

Me: "That's nice".

This went on for about 10 minutes.

You can't update your handset if you lock into a three year plan, unless you know something that I don't.

As of my 1-year anniversary into my current 3-year contract, I was eligible for an equipment upgrade.

Granted, the subsidies being offered for most upgrade phones are pretty crappy. I suspect (but don't know for sure) that the subsidies probably get bigger the further you get into the contract before you upgrade.
