Iphone on Orange pay as you go - internet use

Hi. My wife bought me an unlocked Iphone and I am currently using it on Orange pay as you go. However when I contacted Orange to activate MMS and internet access I was told I needed to download settings from Apple to put on the phone to allow these to work. As you will guess I cannot go onto Apple and ask for the settings to use the phone on Orange. Has anyone else come up with this problem and know how to remedy it?
By the way I am not a techy so it needs to be simple!
 
for a start i dont think youre gona be able to get mms working lol.
but i can give you the internet settings which are on my orange phone, think it is pretty standard so you should just be able to copy them..

Code: 
Name: Orange GPRS WAP
APN: orangewap
Password: leave blank
IP Address: leave blank
DNS Address: leave blank
proxy settings: HTTP Proxy Address: "192.168.071.035" Port: "8080"

if you find where to put those in it should work.. good luck lol

APN: paygwap
Gateway (IP) address : 192.168.71.35
Username: Orange
Password: Multimedia
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Authentication: Normal
Port number: 9201

However their data charges are very high £4 for 16MB!!! I was spending upwards of £20 per month even when trying to restrict my use.

So I switched to O2 and now get unlimited (200MB) for £7.50 per month. Much happier😱

Thanks for getting back to me. Must admit I am getting really frustrated not being able to use the phone to the best. I was not happy at paying £200 odd for a phone and then paying £35 a month for the line rental that is why my wife bought me this unlocked one. You mentioned your switch to O2. Is that as simple as buying an O2 sim card and then contacting them to request the £7.50 per month? I assume your phone was unlocked so was there any issues with approaching O2 with an unlocked phone? As you can probably work out I do not know too much about the ins and outs of the mobile phone world, in fact it has been years since I had a mobile phone for my own use. I really liked this phone and what it could do so that is why my wife bought it for me.

Yep it's a straightforward switch. Just get hold of an O2 PAYG sim card, mine was free on an offer but I think you now have to pay £10 but that will give you £10 credit. Opt in to the web bolt on which is £7.50 per month and your away. You just have to make sure you have £7.50 credit on your phone each month to pay for the bolt on.

If you top up by £10 you also get 300 free texts so as I hardly use mine as a phone I pay £10 per month for unlimited data and more than enough texts to cover my usage.

If you want to keep your old Orange number just ring up Orange and ask for your PAC code I think it is or PUK? code (can't remember now but just tell them you want to transfer your number). Then just give this code to O2 and they'll do the transfer. When they asked what model my phone was I just said I didn't know as I didn't want them to know I had an iPhone (for obvious reasons) but it didn't seem to matter.

Only downsides are you don't get edge speeds and you can't check your emails through the mail app you have to do it through Safari. I have a Yahoo address so this is simple enough for me. Everything still works when on WiFi though.

Hope this all helps. Like I say I'm much happier with O2 but if I were you I'd now wait and see what difference the new 2.0 software will make before deciding.

pay as you internet iphone

hi i also changed from orange to o2 pay as you go card and went for the 10 pound unlimited internet. nobody asked me for the phone,since now pay as you go is available for iphone , so its done only by calling 2425 and follow the instructions. pretty cool 🙂
