that's pretty awesome...

just to clarify, it's a G4 Cube with a custom case made to look like a G5 one.

yeah, japanese do some crazy (and/or neat) stuff sometimes. this one is almost as impressive as the guy who built the keyboard backlight into his iBook before the 17" PB came out with one.

Amazing!

I wish Apple would release one that look just like that Japanese one!

The G5 tower is way too big anyways. A Cube would be perfect!

yeah, I'd love to get my hand on one of those. the really sweet thing about the case is that, it isn't just a straightforward case, they totally customized it to include 4 usb prots and everything, that is something that took Apple years to achieve!!! haha.

does anybody know what kind of 'plastic' is being used ? Is that something you would find in a model shop ? Any 'tutorials' online on how to work this material ?

(still dreaming about a custom 'dock' for my iPod in my car...)

I am gonna have to investigate on how to cut it so clean... I am still amazed at how he managed to make those handles, they are perfect !

I am actually worried about heat. The G4 Cube used air-cooling. Therefore the air goes from bottom to top and out the vents which are now pointing forward.

Wait a minute. People actually like this G5 "satire" of the Cube?

I'm sitting here, looking up at my Cube (yes, I keep it on a shelf), then I look at the pic of the "G5 Cube"... somebody put me to sleep and get it over with. I'm so glad that the original Cube comes with a glass base support, rather than some aluminum/rounded light metal base. Plus I think that the smoothened gray/graphite + glass protectant kicks the mock-up hole punched variation from the pics in all three physical dimensions.

But, I'll admit that the ports on the front of (and directly behind) the G5 Cube make plugging in/out way easier than my technique: If the sound comes out, lift up the Cube carefully, unplug the USB audio plug, replug it, then slowly lower it without suddenly having the computer shut down.
