I don't think we do, can you give us any reasons why you think that we do other than saying that they are separate products? The iBook and MacBook share a forum and it is working perfectly fine there.

No, we don't.
Really? I'm not totally convinced. I know we don't need a new forum for each MB, MBP, MP update, but this seems substantively different, no?

No, we don't.
Why? To keep the two products separate.

We're not going to generate a new forum with new stickies and links every time Apple release a new iPhone. But what we do, is to update stuff as we go along and maybe split off sub-forums if new parallel product lines get introduced.

The Mac Mini doesn't even have its own forum. The Apple TV does, but the Mac Mini doesn't. Why should an UPDATE of the iPhone have one? It's not substantially different.

The original iPhone and iPhone 3G are exactly the same except for slight cosmetic differences, GPS, and a 3G radio.
Oh yeah, don't forget the flush headphone jack!!

Well, now. Maybe the OP killed this himself.

If a Moderator says, "No, we don't.", the wise person would leave it alone! Better to use the existing forums than risk getting banned!
Be easy on the OP! They've already got 27 posts (nearly 20% of which are in this thread), and obviously have a refreshing and crystalline insight into what MR needs.
Oh, poo. I forgot that sarcasm tag...

It doesn't work like that. :D
It's just my personal opinion; it's not within my power to create new forums but I've been here long enough to know it's a non-starter, especially just hours before a new and highly-anticipated product release.

Shhhh! You weren't s'posed to tell! :D Still, with "Demi-Goddess", "Moderator" and "Bitch is the new black", the wise man would think twice about messin' with ya! :D

Is the v3 iPhone likely to have 4G? 801.21? LTE? WiMax?
Probably better to stick to v3 iPhone, until there's a better word for it. But that's 20 odd million 3G iPhone sales away!

One for each color? :D
Let's all relax and chill out over the craziness that will be MR for the next week or so and then look at what, if anything, is needed to do about the 3G iPhone.

Why would we need an iphone 3g forum? The old iphones get 2.0, we don't need a forum for a louder speaker and GPS....
Now, if at some point the iphones can't be upgraded to the latest firmware, i could see lobbying for a firm, but until then why?

The thing that seems substantially different is the software update, not the phone itself. I think having the current separate App forum was a good idea, and keep the hardware together. Once all the hype dies down, the two models should happily sit together in the same forum.
Until then, maybe a OMG!!!!111! I"M GETTING A NEW PHONE!!!!! (and similar sentiments) forum could work temporarily. ;)

Just another noob expressing his opinion, I am sure I carry a lot of weight here :D
There are a substantial amount of us first gen iPhone users here that never upgraded. You don't see or hear from us that much because of the "OMG I just got a 3G phone yipee" threads (which is to be expected), but if you look at the polls you will see a great many of us never upgraded. But there is a hardware difference between the two and it is significant, and it makes it hard to differentiate who it talking about what. This will get worse when the 3G is hacked and jailbroken.
While it may not be the greatest idea to make a 3G forum all on it's own, a different arrangement of sorts should not be ruled out because it is going to become harder to muddle through the mess on who is talking about what in the hacks area especially.

I'm going to hope that the comment made about getting banned if you disagree with a mod was supposed to be funny. But if it wasn't a joke then I'll say goodbye now. ;) And yes, I'm going to have to agree with Ozz.Man...newbie or not. :D
The only reason I found this thread is I was coming here to start a thread. Being a good forum member () I searched first and here I am.
I am not sure a 3G specific forum is needed but if someone has another way of organizing the iPhone forum then I'm all for it. My reason is while the 2.0 update was available to all regardless of being on EDGE or 3G, there are obvious issues that lie with the 2.0 update on all phones but some are specific to the new phone. I think it is safe to say the lag experienced with the 2.0 update occurs with people not using the new phone. I could be wrong as it goes back to my issue of organization. :) Additionally, I believe there are network issues with the 2.0 update on the old phones, but I can't tell as people are complaining but not being specific which phone they're on in every case. On the other hand, the 3G phones are experiencing cosmetic issues, battery issues, network issues, etc.
Again, a new forum each time Apple opts to enhance the features and alter the appearance of a device may not be the solution, but it's something to think about.
I'm thinking (hoping) that it will die down in the next few weeks as it seems to be the case when any new product is released that the mayhem dies down in due time. However, for future reference maybe this can sit on the back burner just long enough to be considered if the issues don't die down.

My first reaction when I saw this thread "ha, wow... no, we don't".
It seriously is not a significant change form the original iPhone.

There's a forum for everything. I just wanted to vent some steam.
Also, I don't think we need an iPhone 3G forum since both iPhone's (EDGE and 3G) run the 2.0 software.
I have an iPhone 3G and used to have an EDGE iPhone (got both on launch) and they don't have many differences.
