Well the same could be said for the 17" PB. Different people have different needs have different tastes.

the neck is the same size as before... I think the base is heavier though...

and maybe the tension increased? I'm not sure, but I didn't notice any difference in size of the neck

I think you misconstrued my point. At the sacrifice of having a larger screen, the general mechanics of holding the screen had to get larger. Who's to say that the 17" PB can't fit on someone's lap comfortably? Everyone has varying sized laps.
