I'd love to but I can't justify the extra $30/month.

Maybe I'll get an iPod touch instead. :)

I was going to get one, but I'm gonna end up sticking with Verizon and getting the LG Dare, whichll end up saving me 1,600$ over 2 years (and I'll still have unlimited internet, lots of txt/pix/video messages)

Not at Vodafone's rip-off prices. I may change my mind when another carrier gets it.

I plan to get a 16GB black version, however I expect I'll have to pay through the roof to get it unlocked, as I travel a bit and am not rich enough to use roaming.

Why would I rush to get something that supposedly delivers better speed when I am not sure it will work in many areas I travel in?

Plus, low battery life and $15/mo more? Just because I can afford it, doesn't mean I want to be ripped off.

Please add an option for "Not offered in Vermont" above "Not offered in my country".

Nope. Too many things wrong with it for me.

Two comments:

I can't believe so many people prefer white. I mean, I prefer white, but I thought most people would want black.

And secondly, YAY! POLL IS BACK!! :D

Nope...if I had an excuse to buy a personal cell phone I certainly would, but work provides me with a Blackberry Curve. No need for two cell phones!

No...but only because I have iPhone Classic. I wish that was a voting option to differentiate between people who just don't want one and people who just aren't upgrading.

I'd love to, but the carrier monthly fees are too high.

i voted no for now

Dang it all!

I don't even text message -- what would I do with all them bells-'n'-whistles?

I'll stick to my li'l cheap Nokia for now.

I'm going to stick with my current iPhone. I don't have 3G coverage in most of my area so I can't justify spending $15 more than I am now to get the same thing as I have now.

No...but only because I have iPhone Classic. I wish that was a voting option to differentiate between people who just don't want one and people who just aren't upgrading.

Indeed. That's a rather glaring omission...

I got my iPhone Classic™ last August and jailbroke it a week later (AT&T).
I love all my 3rd-party apps, and my many options using Customize app.

I browse the web all the time on EDGE, and it is usually fine, especially when
the signal is good. So if it takes takes 40 seconds to load MacRumors home page,
that means I can load it in "only" 20 seconds using iPhone 3G?? OMG!
Sod that, I'll just bust out my MacBook (which I happen to have with me most
of the time) and load it––using the iPhone as a modem––in 4 seconds. That's right, 4...
Plus there's so much free Wi-Fi around that I can use the iPhone in that mode,
but then the page still takes 10 seconds to load, whether 1.3 Mb DSL or 16 Mb cable.

There are several things I like about the new iPhone, but I think I'll wait and see
what the 3rd generation iPhone has to offer, especially in terms of faster web page
rendering and better battery life. Until then, I love my iPhone Classic!

I would buy it if Verizon Wireless got it.... I don't want to switch to AT&T since it's a bit cheaper where I'm at.

Voted no for the poll, though I'm sure that I'll eventually get the 3G. Currently 3G data is not offered where I live so I'm in no hurry to upgrade to 3G. The app store is enough to tide me over until the 3G network enlarges. Though I may get the 3G sooner if my wife keeps bugging me to use my Gen1 iPhone. :D

Jul 10, 2008, 04:30 PM
Not right away. Gotta check out how the apps do on the the EDGE iPhone. If they don't play well (ie., you need GPS and 3G in order for them to work properly) then maybe.

Not yet. Going to try out a 1st Gen iphone w/ prepaid to see how well it performs here in Wyoming. No Edge, and mostly in 3rd party cell networks, so I'd rather not get locked into a contract until I know if it's going to perform the way I need it to.

I'm going down to see them (and see if they got them at all) in, well, about 6 and a half hours, when the store opens here...

If they got them, and I like what I see, I'm gonna get me one... ;)

If you guys want to have laugh, check out Australian Telstra's 5MB data plan for $30 per month.

Yes, that's 5MB, not 5GB.

http://apcmag.com/breaking_telstra_iphone_plans_leaked__and_theyll_break_the_bank.htm

5MB of data for $30 would be funny if not for the fact that it reflects Telstra's price gouging character. (Hey, Telstra's CEO is an American).

You people in Canada, if you think Rogers is bad, at least they relented after public pressure, whereas Telstra here are totally unrepentant and unyielding.

but, i do plan on buying one in the near future. it looks amazing.

No iPhone for me yet. Aside from money, I won't get one until either AT&T coverage improves in this area, or the end of AT&T exclusivity. And 3G? Not here in the back of beyond, where I spend most of my time, so I'd want greater contract flexibility. I don't like paying for things I can't use...but a Touch is looking like something I might reward myself with when there's money to spare for it.

I just dont want to be ass-raped by Ted Rogers...

hey 115 CDN$ w/o caller display... ridiculous!!

I'll maybe get an older unlocked iPhone 1.0 instead...

The iPhone isn't a very good fit for my needs, even in its 3G model. So no, I'm not getting one.

Ditto! Except it is $35 with text messaging and my wife wants one too so it would be another $70 on top of the $70 month charge. We both would love one but can't justify the cost. Wish we could :(

Once I can use it with T-Mobile...I am definitely buying it. I know I can't use the 3G feature with T-Mobile but I want an iPhone anyway. I didn't have the $ when the first iPhone came out and now that I have the $... I really need an unlocked one.

Planning on two 16's - one black and one white for my wife and I. We were going to get them today, but with the server meltdown and disasterous launch, will wait a few days for things to clear up.:apple::(

Apparently some companies and educational institutions have deals with ATT for discounted plans that can be used with iPhone. No idea how common this is, but worth knowing as you could save a bundle. I found out today that we have a 15% off employee plan. Never knew before. Just in time! :D

Why not? Far too expensive.

I may wait to see what the Pay as you go prices look like. The 02 website says "coming later this year." (http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/paygo)

At present, i can't afford and don't need the £30 a month option.... I'm looking for a new iPod too.

I refuse to be tied down to Rogers for another 3 years, I've already made the mistake of renewing my contract once. Besides my bill is already $50 a month, adding $30 is the equivalent of shooting myself in the head. :D

I would gladly pay $299 to purchase the iPhone 3g from the Apple store, but I guess Apple won't be allowing that this time around. So I will wait and be patient, or maybe hold off entirely.

You mean the Apple iPhone 1.5? No.

If the 3G coverage was more and if they allowed use as a tethered modem , then I'd jump at it. Right now, with 3G coverage a JOKE, I'll pass.

Nope, not a chance. Getting tired dealing with Apple's dwindling HW-quality, dealing with them crippling even the OS (In leopard you can't SMS directly from your address book through the phone anymore), crippling of their hardware (no disk mode on the Touch, nor the iPhone), nixing the fw (years ago) and so on.

Oh, and the mere fact that you cannot even receive an MMS on the iPhone, nor forward an SMS, the tie-ins to iTunes, and the attempt (by nixing disk mode) to make you pay for iDisk every year.

So, no, I'm not paying a premium for an inferiour product just so I can spend my time using workarounds and even pay each year for some of those workarounds.
Oh, and if the previous iPhone and touch are anything to go by, the audio quality will not be up to my standards.

No, I am a first gen iPhone user and will remain so for a great while.

1. 3G not offered around here for about 2 more years (rumor has it) so 3G is a moot point to me.
2. Plastic? Come on. Happy with my slick looking aluminum one.
3. Pay more money a month for less text messages? WTF.
4. Renew my contract? I can barely connect as it is, and dropped calls everywhere. Even right in the middle of the city.
5. 16 gig? They have the technology right now to make these things 80 gig or better, but if they did so that would take away their ability to release a new revised phone every 12 months at 8 gig intervals and milk us for even more.
6. $18 activation fee in addition to more expensive monthly plan. Up yours AT&T. (I know I know every provider does this, but it counts towards my final decision)
7. Even if I was to let my fan-boy-ism get the best of me, there are none to be found for weeks around here at my AT&T store, and Apple store is 2 hour drive.

No offense to you guys who bought one. If it works for you and your happy, that's what I am all about. I am still ridiculed at work for buying my first gen one and because I am a known Apple fanboy, but it works for me and it's not worn out yet.

My complaints are mostly with AT&T.

I have an unlocked 1G iPhone. It works great, and it's unlocked so I'm not getting too badly bent over by Rogers (pay as you go with a txt plan).

That said, when this one bites the dust, I'll be replacing it with a new one.

Not getting any iphone until it gets picked up by verizon..which I am not holding my breath for. And even then, I'd have to look at the rates. $70 per month? That money is better spent in other places (charity, food on the table, other things that give me more enjoyment).
