We in New Zealand are the first to get the iPhone. In fact we've had it for a whole awesome 12 MINUTES! (And wow has it been a blast lol :p). So it was my assumption that the firmware would release with the first iPhone release in the world.. eg now. But i guess not.

That's a point, weren't all iPhone 3G's meant to be preloaded with 2.0?

Supermunki
Jul 10, 2008, 07:23 AM
No doubt the iPhone 3Gs are all preloaded with Firmware 2.0 but meanwhile my poor iPod Touch goes without :(

1 day of waiting, already downloaded the apps I wanted.
There are some pretty crackin' (free) apps.

Well I hope that's not the case as I was looking forwards to trying my shiny new copy of Super Monkey Ball and Jared. Nothing can beat the butcher of song!

It was rumored to be today at 9am PST, but I doubt that's correct.

The only versions of Firmware 2.0 in circulation at the moment are the beta versions aren't they?

I thought 2.0 went Gold Master like last week.

I'm just curious because if an unreleased version of Firmware v2.0 were to ,Ahem, 'Fall' onto my computer, I'd hope it is the final version so that I can be sure of stability and the like. Also it would kind of suck if I bricked my iPod.

It did and it's on BitTorrent and suchlike already. You need iTunes 7.7 to install, but now you've got that...

Well i would wait those few hours Shasterball, but impatience is like a disease that eats away at a mans sanity. I don't think I could bear it and neither could my sanity... :D lol

Haha. Well, since you will obviously be one of the first to get it, let us know how some of the free apps work.

Well apparently, it's on apple's site now...

here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4955.20080710.bgt53/iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw).

THANKYOU!
My torre... Well it was gonna take a while anyways.
Big question though.. All of my firmwares in my ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates folder are preceded by iPod, not iPhone. Is this cause to be concerned? Or are the firmwares identical regardless of the prefix?

they were confirmed to be the same in another thread.

I'm updating my phone to 2.0 right now, I'll report what happens.

Restoring iPhone software now...

Your Iphone has been restored... message just popped up. Phone is restarting now.

iPhone is on Version 2.0. Syncing to get everything loaded.

Sync is going to take a while, I've got a pretty good amount of music on there. Going to go run across campus and grab some food, it should be done when I get back.

Sync complete. All applications are on my phone. Sweet.

Well I just saw a post saying that this is iphone only and bricks ipods. Bummer. Anyway I looked inside the ipsw and the restore.plist refers to two board configurations: m68ap and n68ap which I assume refers to the original iPhone and the 3g iphone.

weird. In iTunes, when i navigate to it, there is nothing in any of the folders that allows the 'open' button to highlight. I can't choose anything.

Looks like you have the "Open 'safe' files after downloading" box checked in your safari preferences. You need to disable this as it automatically converts your ipsw file into a zip, unpacks it and then deletes the original file. Check your trash to see if there is a file called iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.zip or iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw in your trash. If there is the zip, you need to move it out of the trash then change the extension to ipsw and tell itunes to open it then. If it is already ipsw then just move it out of the trash and tell itunes to use that. If there is no file there, right click on the folder that safari created, tell it to compress to zip, and then when that is done rename the extension to ipsw etc.

Yep... that's what it was. I had a sneaking suspicion it was unpacking it and should not have.

My iPhone is up on 2.0, apps are in there, but it will not move my music or photos over. I'ver tried to sync twice now and it's the same still.

Anyone else see this?

That is what I said.
Dont use it in Touches. They will need to be restores.
(To complicate it: ater the restore my iTunes refuses to see the Software Upgrade I paid for). 'Yay'
Ah well. 2.0 is out soon anyway. Very very soon.

Ok, now it is copying the music over, but there are 6 apps that did not install due to an error occurring. Odd.

What do you mean it doesn't move them over? Do you mean like you hold your finger on them but they can't be moved anymore?
