Does anyone know if more manufacturers are starting to produce these chips yet. I did a quick google and didn't really find any information newer than late summer. I would like to drop one into my PB but sheesh at 500-700 right now who can afford that???

thats pretty much what I was hoping would happen by now heh, I know at least Dell and HP besides Apple offer laptops that claim 2GB max ram so there is a reason for them to produce the chips, but prices haven't seemed to vary at all since their introduction in September.

Check it out. I've found excellent prices there. Also try Fry's Electronics if you have one in your area. They seem to have dirt cheap RAM on occasion.

I realize I can get 512 for 100ish, but best they find for 1gig is 450+, thats well over 4x as much as a 512 which seems ludicruous to me still.

I'm gonna drop a 1Gig RAM ino my 12-inch PB as soon as it hits $350...
my bro is giving my $100 for my current 512MB... so the 1GB is only costing me $250... when is that actually going to happen though??!! can't wait.

wouldn't you buy ram if you just bought a new computer?
I mean, my next powerbook will come with a 1GB Ram chip, and I'll buy a 3rd party 1 GB in addition...
do you suggest that I don't bother and just put the money towards an even newer laptop?

my last post wasn't really mean to be taken seriously, its more like, don't upgrade if the prices are ridiculous or you're making ridiculous amounts of money to back up a purchase. i mean if u really need the performance boost, by all means, but if you can hold out till prices drop even better.

well i planned on doing the same thing, but now i think ill just invest in a 512 chip to go along with the 1gb stick that i orered bto from apple.
but these prices dotn justify the gain

by the way, if i remember correctly, the 1 GB RAM became available sometime earlier this year, prob. around april. back then, it was nearly $1,000.
so while it's still pricy, the price has come down...
