getting sporadic issues. i'm sure 2.0.1 will be on the way in the next week. apple usually doesn't launch things like this or mobile me (STILL not up!!!). very strange, but i guess it's tough making 500 developers' apps to work on one machine.

I have been having some minor issues, apps have sometimes been crashing on me now, only the demanding apps like games and stuff. They brought me back to the home screen about 4 - 5 times today. Also it has crashed so badly that the iPhone has to restart itself, this has happened twice. But I myself manually restarted it and so far it has been smooth as butter, I'm sure it can be better but for now it's fine and I'm very happy.

 This is quite funny. I thought this was the very reason Apple did the whole sandbox thing to keep things stable . Guess not. Better think twice before talking bad about windows mobile or blackberry os, it's not easy making an OS to allow third party support on a cell phone.

The only app to crash on me today is the App Store itself, oddly enough.

Having problems with light, removed everything and put it all back on less light and it's been fine so far.

I guess so, but it is still pretty advanced and stable in comparison. Not that I'm protecting Apple or being biased against you or anything.

The 2.0 update isn't out yet officially. But to be honest, anything .00 will have some bugs in it. Even Apple App Store apps.

I'll give you that.

I just wished more people would appreciate some of Apple's competitors and not be so one minded when it comes to technology. What I like about Apple is they're some revolutionary changes to the general OS system (Active Sync, Push System for app notifications, etc etc).

I think in due time, Apple will be able to work out the bugs I just hope they will because this OS and philosophy behind is very exciting!

In all honestly, using plenty of phones in my lifetime I can easily say Windows Mobile is the biggest pile of crap ever whipped up in Redmond. Blackberry & Symbian are great devices and Palm had a good thing going before they forgot to update there software, but WM should be retired.

The iPhone is a great phone, nothing is like it and it will be some time before there is some alternatives in the same league. The thing to remember is nothing is perfect. Hell, even I can admit that almost every Apple computer that I have owned has been in for service, unlike most of my old Dell computers.

I am a huge Apple fan but you have to admit they did a sweet job on the iPhone.

Also remember - its 2.00. Many aspects of the OS are being pushed in ways that they never were before.

im in the same position. worked perfectly through the whole day. Suddenly an hour ago every app just crashes back to the homescreen. Tried reboots and resyncing. Other people with a similar problem? it literally will not open any 3rd party apps anymore. Just opens the opening screen then crashes to home screen. !! argh now that ive had a taste i cant wait til tomorrow for an official release

AIM and Ebay have been crashing for me. Ebay shut the phone off twice, AIM shut it off once, but usually just takes me to the home screen.

Every few times I start iTunes Remote, the entire phone just does a hard reset.

If you mean the Apple logo comes up and it restarts, the phone's probably running low/runs out of available memory which lead to a reboot. If you have an iPhone Developer account (with Apple) you can download a movie about it on iTunes ADC. Of course it could just be the app, but it hasn't done that to me on AIM or eBay yet, but some other free apps.

Funny - although I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say yet (no the NDA has not been lifted), I have not seen any crashes for awhile in normal use. Yes there are bugs in the OS and apps are pushing APIs of the OS in ways that they were never tested much, but its been pretty solid for me.

I also want to add - a few months ago I mentioned that the one thing I expected Mac developers to have a hard time with is writing apps for a mobile device and its different limitations/requirements - and I was right. While the iPhone is more liberating than WinMobile or BlackBerry, its still a tight squeeze and you have to write embedded efficient code. Not many desktop developers have any experience in that.

has anyone figured this might have been iphone 3g firmware?

AIM is crashing for me, but I think it's because it's trying to log into the screen name too often.

yes, a couple of crashes here. I hope it only happens when using new apps, and doesn't effect the stability of the phone for making calls, doing email, etc.

Same problems here, a bunch of apps crash randomly, other apps crash on load.

I know this thread has been a couple of weeks old, but has anyone found any way to fix the crashing apps?
Things were going fine for me for so long, but now I cannot open all but 1 app. They keep crashing when they are trying to open. This is driving me crazy.

You can try rebooting, deleting and reinstalling apps, and all those other tricks. Unfortunately I find them to only be a temporary fix. I think we're S.O.L. until Apple decides to finally release 2.0.1 to stabalize things. In some cases it's the apps themselves that's the problem. But in most cases, I find it's the buggy 2.0 firmware.

Ive had apps crash and not open what so ever.
I just restore as new iphone. then it works for a while til i have to restore again because of some new app.

I have restored as a new iphone 5 times since i got my iPhone3G.
The 1st gen has only been restored once. I should take it back from my lil girl and give her mine.

I've been searching for a Flickr app that can upload my photos to the net, and every single one i've downloaded thus far just crashes as soon as I load it (MoPhoto, AirMe, etc). YouNote crashes upon loading as well :-( Pretty frusterating, especially since these are from the app store...

Well I ended up on the phone to Apple this arvo twice, as not only are my apps crashing, but they won't update (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=537833)

They went through several things, which included a restore, and still no go.
Then we completely restored the firmware and didn't use any backups so that we were at a completely fresh install with 2.0.1, and then reconnected it to iTunes and sync'd all the programs on, and guess what.... the apps STILL crash after less than 1 second of trying to load.

I was in a hurry tonight when I spoke to them the 2nd time, so they are ringing back tomorrow morning to continue trouble-shooting with me (I have been dealing mainly with Product Specialists - so not the normal helpdesk staff).

I will let you know how I go. I am using iPhone 3G, with a Macbook Pro (running 10.5.4, and iTunes 7.7.1).

Hopefully we can fix the problem with my apps crashing all the time.
