View Full Version : If Apple releases a 32GB iPhone 3G, will AT&T make you pay full price?

OK, so I've got a version 1 iPhone that I love.
I'll probably buy a 3G 16GB model this weekend (if anyone has any left; have to work on Friday).

But, since I have to renew my AT&T contract for another 2 years, and since the price of the phone is subsidized like other AT&T phones, will I have to wait until AT&T "allows" me to upgrade my hardware before I could buy a (presumably eventually forthcoming) 32GB iPhone? Will I have to pay $599 like other AT&T customers do who aren't yet eligible for phone upgrades?

Anyone know how this is going to work?

why wouldnt it be full price? its a new phone on supposably the same contract right.

I guess I'd rather it be like the non-subsidized phone was; want to upgrade, pay the same price as everyone else.

Good grief dude I thought I was a geek…if you ultimately want a 32GB, why not just wait for it?

My guess:

Bad news--You will have to pay $599 for the 32GB model

Good news--Your 16GB 3G will be worth more on eBay than the subsidized price you paid.

Figure a transaction cost between $100-200 on this upgrade cycle.
