Genre: Rock
Song Link: Why Can't I? by Liz Phair (http://www.dailytunes.com/songs/20031217013855.html)
Comment: It's a little like Avril Lavigne's songs, but it's got more angst. And it's delivered well by a wonderful and beautiful rock chick.

yes, great song, great artist. although, i have to say that avril lavigne is a bit like liz, not the other way around.
i still think my favorite track from her latest, self-titled album is "extraordinary":
"i'm just your ordinary average, everyday, sane psycho supergoddess..."
'supergoddess' is right, check out the gallery:

also, if you haven't listened to 'whitechocolatespaceegg' or 'whip smart', check them out...

As a long time Liz fan I wanted to point out that Avril is like Liz, not the other way around. I'm wondering if Avril was even alive when Liz was doing her Girlysound stuff ;)
I think her earlier albums had some better work, and linked some of my favorites when adding this to my list.

it's not a coincidence that it sounds like avril. if i'm not mistaken, avril's songwriters pitched in on this album.
anyone know how well this album sold?

I've not seen any statistics but compared to any of her other albums this one has gotten the most airplay & notice of any of her other ones that I remember.
Whip Smart got a bit of play time with "Supernova" because it was a 'buzz clip' back when MTV played music ;)
But after 'Why Can't I' was put on a soundtrack album I'd guess she did a lot better commercially on this one.

Great song ... it's the #1 most-played song in my iTunes library. :)
Since we're discussing Avril vs. Liz, I'll say that Liz seems to appeal to people in their 20s+ while Avril seems to appeal to the 12-17 age group (Sk8er Boi, anyone?).
Anyway, I like both. :)

Yeah, it helps a lot that she has more stuff that can be played on the radio now . . .
