This is what I sent to apple, I think I got my point across.
Hello,
I am a loyal apple customer. I love apple and I was very pleased with Apple, until this morning. I just payed over $3600 for a brand new MacBook Pro, iPod Touch, etc. I go on to get the new firmware this morning, and like 1000s of other apple customers, I am met with a sign saying it's not available. Now, I know that this happens occasionally, but for a whole day? This is ridiculous. I am being a loyal customer and not taking the cheap way out by downloading the torrent, which would be free. Is this fair, NO! I would like to see myself and everyone else compensated for this disaster. I always recommend Mac products to everyone I do business with, but with a failure like this, I will think otherwise.
Thank You,
Chad Brommer

In my 8+ years of being an Apple customer I have never seen such a day of failures for Apple. Inability to activate new iPhones, MobileMe still says "The MobileMe transition is underway but is taking longer than expected." and all this difficulty allowing people to download the v2 software.
Does anyone whose Apple history goes back further than mine recall a more poorly executed day?

It would have been more professional, and proper if you had just waited maybe one more day. Then your letter would be more just. But for now, that letter seems to me to be unneeded. I'm not trying to argue or insult you, but it's not good to use caps in a formal letter, nor is it wise to email the company after only one day. Yeah, if it was two days then maybe it would be understandable to the company, but even then it's a long shot.
No one is going to get a free application from anything. We're not going to be "rewarded for waiting" because honestly a whole lot of you are just being very, very impatient. It will come no matter what, or how long. It'll be here. But you guys all just kind of have to settle down and wait. Go watch a movie, listen to music, sleep, relax. All you guys should get this out of your heads and make time fly by, and before you know it you'll be downloading the official 2.0 software and you'll be happy you waited.

and in a little while I'll be having it up and running.
I guess they did manage to pull it off just in the nick of time.

Well DUH. If Apple is looking to benefit from the publicity of big roll out days such as this/big announcements then they have to be willing to pay for the risk that they mess them up big time.
P.S. Of course, even if I HAD 2.0 on my iPod as I finger type this, I still wouldn't have been able to copy and paste the text of the story.

And just went w/ the manual install.
Totally painless. Had to rebuild music / playlist library..... but so what.
Anyway, if this one is the final (official) version, there are a few bugs. rotating the screen in Safari seems a lot more jerky than 1.1.4, and I can't seem to locate the "multiple calendar" option they're boasting on Apple's website.
On the upside..... REMOTE, baby!
I recommend the move to anyone. It was an idiot's delight to install.
I rationalize the move by telling myself that they owe me. I drop LOOT on Apple, and my recommendation to others sells iMacs and MacBooks a-plenty. I'm personally responsible for creating about 3-4 "switchers".
Plus, after the aggravation they caused me today, out of planning that can only be described as retarded, I figure $10 bucks is the least they can do. :D

I've got to say, I'm a little pissed that they shoved it in under the wire. Pretending like everything was working and they got in off on July 11 when in reality they messed up the process, had it not work a dozen different ways, and then showed they could fix it enough to save their reputations.
It certainly didn't help their reputation in my view.

Apple headquarters were empty as all the software people went home, happy as can be that they survived their launch and blissfully ignorant about the ipod touch issue.
Along comes a janitor who realizes that the "ipod touch 2.0" switch on a server is switched to off. "that's odd" he says as he flips it back on to the delight of the country

I'll take my royalties in the form of app donations thank you very much.
It's crazy lightning here in Chicago. It's like a frankenstein type thing bringing my ipod touch to life again
Crazy lightning indeed. The thunder was actually shaking my house yesterday.

This is like Christmas! I haven't had this much fun in awhile.
I'm so happy. :D:D

I gave up at 02:00 last night (well, this morning I guess), then woke up this morning like an excited kid at Christmas...and now I find that Apple has got its ass in gear, I'm crazy happy. Best morning ever! :D
Now I can finally use the £20 of App Store software I bought yesterday. Impatient, me? Well, maybe just a little.

plugged the touch in - iTunes says there is a new software, bought it, backed up, installed, works. 20min :)
Works good so far! But scrolling through mails is sluggish and not smooth  Any idea?

Okay, so holding the Home button and pressing the on off button at the same time makes the screen flash white? What is this for?

I'm relatively certain that skipping tracks from the now playing screen is slower than 1.1.4...which sort of annoys me..but I guess I can wait for the next update...beggers can't be choosers.

I love the Chinese handwriting recognition! It's fun drawing the characters on the screen and seeing whether the iPod knows what the heck you're trying to draw. :D

Verifying iPod Software!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::D:D:D:D
this is a very exciting process especially after waiting 12+ hrs
Did it really take 12 hours to run the validation? I am having so much trouble with this stage of "Verifying iPod Software" it has been running for hours and nothing is changing

It takes a screenshot.
Which then shows up in iPhoto as a camera roll (surprising to see for this iPod Touch owner) :D
2.0 is nice so far, lots of apps installed (this was a 1.1.1 iPod Touch when I bought it in September/October) but I'll probably go back to 1.1.4 with the jailbreak - there's just not enough useful free apps on the App Store compared to what's available from the jailbreak community.
