i know that the macbook 13 can't connect to the 30 inch cinema display, but will they eventually be able to? i'm still deciding if i want a mbp or a mb because of this dilemma. i'm majoring in computer science and its best for me to have a wide screen to be able to analyze multiple codes at once.

You need dual-channel to drive 30" displays at their native resolution, thus it's unlikely that you'll see it anytime soon on MB. 24" is probably the best you'll see.

Every display Apple ships is a widescreen. So if that is what you're after you'll be OK.
