Voice recorders - transfer to Mac?

Hey there,

There's about five or six voice recorders available at the moment, and they all have a very similar interface and seem to do the same thing, but I'm wondering if any of them allow you to actually transfer your recordings on to your PC/Mac? Recording little notes and memos is fine but if I want to record my friend saying something on the fly, an interview etc, it'd be handy to actually get that off the phone.

If anyone's tested any of the voice recorders and can tell me one that definitely does this, I'll be most grateful =)

OK, well nobody cared about this anyway, but if someone comes across this and wants an answer, I found this:

"Apple has not allowed developers to make email attachments or perform app syncing with iTunes"

That's from the website for the VoiceRecord paid app. So that sucks ...

I was very disappointed about this as well, I can't believe its not possible to get recordings transfered to the mac, its crazy, what is the point of recording something only to have it stuck in the phone.

I wanted to let everyone know that I have been in contact with the devs at SpeakEasy: Voice Recorder and in an update coming soon most likely within the month they will add the ability to transfer your recordings to your computer. I think they are planning on doing it using SSH or something similar to what FileMagnet uses. I am not exactly sure how it will work but they are adding it very soon! :)

That sounds pretty good. I will probably go with Speakeasy. I like some of the other features Speakeasy has that the others don't. The description says you can add pictures to your recordings - cool! :)

That would depend on your state laws. Should be legal almost everywhere as long as both parties agree to the recording. If you don't inform them of the recording it may be legal in some states but you'd need to check.

I don't know but I think Apple has been pretty restrictive about SDK apps interacting with Apple apps.

Another vote for signing up for Evernote. Lets you post audio, video, text notes from the iPhone and syncs them to the Evernote site which will also then sync down to your desktop client.

On the desktop you can also clip web pages etc which you could then reference on the iPhone. Does need a connection to get your notes, but taking notes is fine and it will just upload when you next have signal.

Nothing to do with the company, just a happy user (and Leo Laporte and Merlin Mann like it too - what more could you want?)

EDIT: I should also mention it does text recognition on photos so you can scan in a handwritten message or photograph a sign etc and then search on words in that. Very very cool.

although it's limited to 30 seconds or so, reQall might be worth checking out. It's one of the 2 apps (jott is the other) that lets you speak and have it turn that into text for reminders, lists, etc. you create an account with them to use it, and you can listen to your recordings on their website. it's not ideal in that you're not saving the file locally, but it's something at least.

I'm going to check out evernote though. I was in the beta for that and thought it was pretty cool but hadn't downloaded their app yet

Has anyone tried the app called Audio Recorder by Peerium Inc? It allows emailing of audio files to yourself or someone on your contact list (although it is in a strange Quicktime format) and seems to have the best recording controls (allows you to record, play and add to an existing recording all on the same screen).

it is only $2.99, cheaper than SpeakEasy voice recorder.

With Evernote, aren't you limited to 60 seconds? I was also looking for an app that would allow you to offload to your computer (a PC in my case) and this was the only one I found. But the 60 second limit is a bit of a deal-breaker for me.

FYI: I found out that the developers of SpeakEasy Voice Recorder are currently working on an update that would give the ability to get recordings off the phone. And there isn't a time limit on the recordings with SpeakEasy.

Audio Recorder allows you to e-mail the recording to yourself or a contact. It appears (from the reviews) the e-mailing is not always working, but it did for me after a couple of tries. Quality was pretty good.

Once again SpeakEasy is working on getting this working. I have been in contact with the developer with possible solutions for this to work and it is definitely coming, so just be patient all of these apps are on version 1 and some great updates are on the way!
