MBA + Ipod Touch/Iphone + App Store

I only have dsl for my internet, and i need an internet connection to get the ipod touch firmware update.

would a standard usb hub work for both the apple usb ethernet hub and work for syncing an ipod/iphone so i can get the firmware update?

or is there any way to work around this?

Hubs would be fine.

I'd make sure it's USB 2.0 and powered so you have it easiest.

Sure. The Airport Express is the easiest way to convert any ethernet connection onto a wireless connection for any wifi device -- your MBA and iPhone/iPod Touch.

You don't need anything else. Just plug it onto an outlet, plug your usual ethernet cable on it, and run the AirPort Utility, it will assist you on setting up your wireless network in a few clicks.

The Airport Extreme is not necessary. It is a wireless router as the Express, but with more features, like other ethernet ports (for the ones who need BOTH wireless and cables), usb port (for sharing a hard drive or a printer over the network), etc. It also features a greater wireless range, but an Airport Express may be enough for a small apartment.

do the b/g adapters really differ from the new and more expensive n adapters? Is the wireless slow/bad with b/g?

Wireless g is probably faster than your internet connection is - n is good for computer to computer networking :)

even 802.11b (the really old standard) is faster than many people's internet (it's 11 mbps, while standard comcast cable, for example, is 6 mbps). 802.11g is up to 54 mbps, which far exceeds what most people have.

802.11n is good if you want to transfer large files from one computer to another on your network. For internet, it will make no difference at all, except that the range of the base station is better.

The current airport express has n, but if you can find a good deal on an older express with g, you'd be totally fine with that too.

Please notice that the N devices has more range than G devices. The Airport Express N benefits a little from that.

I would go with the Airport Express. It's a wonderful device to bring along on trips, because of its small footprint.
