SANTIAGO (Reuters) - A stripper who danced on the poles of Santiago subway trains to challenge the prudishness of Chilean society was arrested on Thursday during one of her lightning performances.
Monserrat Morilles, 26, surprised subway riders all week stripping to skimpy underwear, but she refused tips.
She said she was protesting a lack of tolerance in Chile, one of Latin America's most conservative societies where the first generation since the Pinochet dictatorship is reaching adulthood.
"This is just a beginning. We are starting an idea here that will grow and be developed further," she told Reuters as police and subway guards surrounded her.
The professional pole dancer worked quickly all week to avoid arrest, getting on at one station, finding a subway car with no children on it and stripping in time to exit at the next station.
Chilean media dubbed her "La Diosa del Metro" or Subway Goddess. She called her performances "happy minutes."
"Chile is still a pretty timid country," said her manager Gustavo Pradenas. "People aren't very extroverted and we want to take aim at that and make Chile a happier country."

Now, that's the way to get more people (men especially) to take public transport.

I Toronto, she could even be top-less.
But, lewd and lascivious is still on the books here.
I think?? :p

As a female who has attempted poll dancing at least once, I commend her and her efforts and her athletic abilities.
Too bad she was arrested, but at least she made news.

So what's this poll dancing? Skipping from voting booth to voting booth? :p

Heh - Google's banner ad along the bottom of my browser read, "Learn to Pole Dance in LA".
Awesome. Does this girl have a Paypal account? I feel like sending her a donation to support her cause. :)

Now you know why page-loading takes so long. ;)

I doubt she will need a tag day, any time soon.
Any strip club that has her on the marquee will have turn-away business.
Such is the price of fame. :p

Did you see that tank they took her away in? Wasn't that a bit of overkill? Don't they have police cars there?

and really thats what matters, isn't it? she's achieved what she set out to do, increase awareness, and she's certainly done that by gaining international notoriety.
really is a bit of overkill to arrest her than to just escort her off the premises.

those are actually just the patro troopers they have and use. you should see colombian armor trucks, you knwo the ones that pick up money from banks and stuff? and there are like 8 security guards per car, and the whole setting up and everything they have to do everytime they pick up and drop off money, or at least it used to be a couple of years ago, i think its the same now tho

Well done to her for putting her money where her mouth is.
I do get the feeling this was a pre-arranged arrest? She seemed to have arranged for someone to be filming her, and there seems to be a shot of a policeman watching her (not clear). Also there was extensive media present at her arrest - possibly she tipped them off.
If it was a tip-off then congrats on skilfully handling it for maximum exposure.

Yep. And that cop gave her a nice little dry hump before pushing her in. Dude was probably salivating all over himself when he jumped in.

Maybe this will finally convince all of those researchers at Tulane to figure out how we can create a subway system here in below sea-level New Orleans. With out ratio of strippers to general population we could easily have the highest ridership levels in the world

that implies that ever so often, they are that interesting!? lucky. :pSadly, the implication is a flat out lie...save for the occasional drunk falling about the place, but still, not quite the same as having your very own carriage stripper on hand. Something for TfL (Travel for London) to look in to me thinks :D
