Hello all,

My wife's new Macbook has an icon in the top menu area right next to her Time Machine icon and I have no clue what it is. I'd like to know what it is and how to remove it.

Can you guys help?

Dunno what it is, but to remove it try holding down the command key, click and drag it off

Edit> try looking in your activity monitor to see what it is, you could also quit it from there

Maybe it is a program started automatically. Check the "login items" in the "Accounts" System Preferences...

Figured it out. It's the Epson Smart Panel application. No clue what it is or why it's needed. I killed it in the Activity Monitor and the icon went away. Now just need to figure out how to delete it.

Did you install epson ink software?

Do you have an Epson printer? This might give you alerts when you are low on Ink, etc.

Yes, we have an Epson printer. One of the free one's from the Apple Store. I'm not sure if it reloaded or not. I'll have a look tonight...

Heh, thanks for asking - I was wondering what that was myself (I have an Epson R1800.)

Well it's not hurting anything, so I'm gonna let it stay up there 🙂

Just checked and it's still gone, but I'm not sure if she has rebooted lately. If it pops up again, I'll probably just leave it.
