Assuming you have a legal copy of Vista (you said you downloaded it) more than likely you did not obtain a correctly formatted copy in order to burn it to a DVD.

NOTE: You can not just download Vista files and place them on a DVD or CD and expect it to work. The downloaded copy of Vista should have been in an ISO or image (DMG) format in order for it to be burned direct to the media.

Your installation media needs to be bootable.

As chscag noted, a legal copy of Windows Vista (which can be downloaded - we download it via our Enterprise license agreement with Microsoft) will be an image file that is then burned onto a DVD. The image file contains the file necessary to make the DVD bootable.

Guys i did it, but it didnt work, same thing happened, does it have to have a specific name and as i mentioned before it has all versions of vista so does that interfere ?

Where are you downloading this from? A torrent site? Or are you copying the files from a Vista DVD and trying to burn them to a blank DVD?
