View Full Version : TeleNav app a myth??

I just e-mailed TeleNav, here's the transcript..
My e-mail to them:
"Hello, I recently purchased an iPhone 3g and had a question about your
products. Will you be developing a TeleNav module for the iPhone 3g?
And, if so, do you have an estimated date of release?"
And their (disappointing) response:
"That phone does not support Telenav. Unfortunately, we do not have an ETA on if or when this phone will supported."
Hmm, doesn't sound very promising does it???
Any thoughts? I know Gizmodo supposedly confirmed that a TeleNav app will be coming, but this makes me wonder.

I don't think we'll see any turn-by-turn apps.

Why do you think that?

Why do you think that?
Because it is defined word for word in the SDK EULA that they will not be permitted.

That was copied verbatim from the Google Earth/Maps EULA. If TomTom or TeleNav provide their own maps, it should be fine.

there was a fellow from telenav posting here the other day; he seemed to think it was coming.

Another thing the OP might want to note: when Apple has new products on the horizion, how often do the employees at the stores or on their phones know about it? You can call asking when the new Mac Pro is going to be released all day, but they don't have any information, and if they do, they can't say anything.

the iphone will never be as good as a garmin. This is basically if you are in a car with someone and you are the the navigator. Then it will work perfectly.

No one is saying it will be, but if you dropped $200 or $300 for an iPhone it would be a little more convenient for it to give you turn-by-turn directions than buying a new garmin

Why not? If tomtom or telenav releases software for it, it would be comparable.

The Telenav QA guy seemed to be legit and he indicated telenav is far along in the development of their iPhone product.. So I would expect to hear more about it soon.

You know, that email from TeleNav doesn't disprove anything.
They're saying that it does support TeleNav (which the current software doesn't right now).
They also said they don't have an ETA on when it will be available.
The TeleNav article didn't mention when it was getting released.

It's a lot like emailing Apple and asking details about the next iMac.

Without a turn by turn navigation system, the GPS chip is worthless to me.
