It's counting to 133775136.. I'm not sure what for.

Taken as a timestamp that date is 2nd Jan 1970..

Edit: If you multiply the timestamp by 100000 you get 4pm (GMT) 15th July 2008....

Geohot is Judas. Woz is Christ as so many hackers look up to him. The iPhone is supposed to either be the bread served at the Last Supper or the Holy Grail...could go either way. I go with bread for now.

Anything else someone wants to throw in?

Is someone, um, pleasuring Woz?

Hell yes. I've read that it could also be geohot but I think it's more of a reference to Google sucking him off.

for those wondering if this will work on 3g and the 1st gen iphone i am quite sure it will. correct me if im wrong but pwnage mods the firmware that is then installed onto the iphone. and since both the first and 3g iphones are running the same firmware then the unlocking would be the same process. correct me if im wrong

EDIT: didnt take into account bootloader, so dont count this comment. i personally think that the wait for releasing it instead of on launch day was because either this bootloader problem meaning they are working it out before the release or because of glitches in the firmware and that they will release it later for 3g

Well actually its a little bit more complicated than that. Inside the iphone there is a thing called bootloader, which contains the simlock, software of course. The new iphone 3G has a different bootloader than the first iphone making it harder to crack as there isnt a workaround yet. So the unlocking process will be harder than on the first gen iphone.

Though I'm sure that DevTeam will find a solution for us :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the bootloader has nothing to do with the jailbreaking of the 3G iphone. JBing the iphone wont be a problem.

Is he a part of DevTeam? If not, he knows just about as much as you and me. DevTeam hasnt neither confirmed nor denied that Pwnage 2.0 will unlock 3G. So until they make a statement or release their software it could be either way. I'm hoping for 3G unlock as there is a POSSIBILITY that it will be included. If someone (read Geohotz) found a way to modify the old bootloader someone (read either Geohotz or DevTeam) could do it again.

If you read the comments left by the dev team in the posts on their blog, you will see a post which states that the 3G iPhone development work is a seperate stream to the work going on with pwnage2.0 although the 2 will come together at some point (next tool after 2.0?)

I thought that PWNAGE 2.0 wasn't supporting the new iPhone 3G?? 1000's of us are sat here with 2G iPhones waiting to use the new iphone software, surely it would have made sense to focus on unlocking the software on 2G? and not delaying waiting for the 3G to be cracked as well?

These are two separate work-streams, which will merge eventually, either of these streams are not dependent on each other and won't impact on the release that we've been talking about. PwnageTool 2.0 is in the final test stage and this new work doesn't alter that whatsoever.

new work he is talking about is from the video of them getting into the 'iBoot' of the 3G iPhone, which would be a little away from actually unlocking it - but it's a way in

No, the two seperate streams (WITHIN Pwnage 2.0) he is referring to is

1, iphone 2g jailbreaking and unlocking
2, iphone 3g jailbreaking (and possibly unlocking)

iphone 3g "development" is still in pwnage 2.0, but as a seperate stream than 2g. but still pwnage 2.0

follow?

Of course it is a way in since there is no unlock without jailbreaking, BUT the unlocking of 3G is like they said in another post, a different challenge. I do, however, believe that they are working on 3G unlock to be included in pwnage 2.0.

follow?

Time will see there....(How can the 2.0 tool be in final testing and only just starting to work on the 3G iPhone?) follow?

and I never said it would be easy to unlock 3G iPhone, I mealy stated that 'stage 1' has been cracked by getting in the handset.

Exactly, I wish they would stop with these shenanigans and release the software or stop toying with people. The picture was amusing at best, soon is not an answer, if they can give at least an ETA on how long before they release something, by the end of the week would even suffice. Soon could be the end of the month or next month even. Hopefully someone releases something soon, I just want the applications and the ability to upgrade my 1G iPhone to the 2.0 software. True enough no one wants a sh**ty defective product but can we at least get a beta or SOMETHING instead of videos and pictures.

I see they're trying to look out for the non-tech savvy crowd and come up with designing a interface to make it as painless as possible, but they've been working on this for months and reporting that they've hacked each beta build that has come out. My whole gripe or issue about this situation is most of us will never even open this program again, as a matter of fact, when I unlocked my phone the first time I deleted the program when I was done, I didn't care how the hell it looked just wanted to use my phone. We waited patiently for Apple, now we're trying to wait *patiently* for the dev team, and I do applaud their efforts and what they're trying to accomplish, but at the end of the day, people just want a SIMPLE, EASY, EFFECTIVE solution to unlocking their iPhone. Not some beautified software, people will still try to sell it to unknowing individuals whether they like it or not, that's just the way people are and it does NOT matter how beautiful or simple their program is, the fact is; if someone comes out with it first, I guarantee you the majority of people who hear about it will rather pay someone than wait on the dev team to release PWNAGE 2.0.

This is 2008, we want things NOW, not "soon". I don't see what's so hard about doing two versions, one for people that just want their phones unlocked and one for people that will probably use the software more than once. This isn't photoshop or a productivity application, it's a friggin' unlock tool.

I don't do math well. :) It's my understanding the release is anticipated for 12 noon Eastern? Just wanted to confirm. Oh this is fun.

I just want to Jailbreak my 3g. Need my pretty backgrounds and ditching the AT&T logo for my name.

My concern is will the apps (and even installer) work. I recall going from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 a nightmare with setting permissions or waiting for the apps to be tweaked to work. That's my fear. Jailbreaking but not able to use the apps. Wondering if anyone has thoughts on that.

Nowhere in my post did I say I wanted something rushed, if they have it and it's functioning properly, from my understanding they are more concerned about the interface and people trying to sell their software for profit. My point is people are going to do this anyway and I do not care about the interface or how beautiful the program looks, because I will NOT use it more than once.

I've been following this community since last year, so do not say "people like me", I am completely aware of the situation and the dev team's responses to everyone's gripe, I'm sharing my opinion. The whole bricked iPhone's argument is old, of course you run that risk if you install ANY unauthorized "hacks" to a phone, so your point is invalid.

I do not care about installer, I only use about .05% of the applications in installer, I want the functionality of firmware 2.0 as well as the apps and games that have been released.

I respect them and what they are trying to accomplish, I'm willing to wait - really don't have a choice, but at the same time, all this back and forth is getting really childish.

I know this is a stretch and probably reading way too much into it, but... I find it odd how they are wording a couple of sentences on the blog site. For example:

"Not sat on our hands..."

and

"So some might think we’ve been twiddling our thumbs or sat on our hands..."

That is clearly not good english. It should read "sitting on our hands"

Does any think this may be more "code" that the release will be Saturday (sat)?

Actually if you were from the UK you wouldn't find it odd at all…

In colloquial usage it happens frequently.

"I was sat here all day" instead of
"I was sitting here all day"

Stood or standing as well.

Nothing to do with Saturday. ;)

oh well, we are getting it for free so we cant complain

Of course we can! :D

It's not like they provided Pwnage 2.0 yet. They just keep teasing everyone on a regular basis and it wastes lots of time of those who care. They deliberately make it look like it could happen any minute now, even though I'm quite sure that they have a plan for everything.

I said it before: If they really cared about stability they hadn't mentioned how close they are to a working JB. Instead they publish a cryptic blog entry every ~14 hours followed by a thousand comments saying "I love you Dev Team. Release it when it's ready!". They even managed to bring thepiratebay down about 2 hours ago, because their member pytey stated: "Lets just say we are warming up the Bittorrent trackers". Of course anyone knowing anything about bittorrent headed to tpb assuming that they would put it on their trackers.

To summarize:
I like what they are doing. If everything works the way they claim it's great.
But the way they present the ongoing development is useless and sometimes harming.

You can't raise expectations through the roof and complain then that some people don't appreciate another screenshot of something we don't need at all (a cli tool would do the job just fine).

Exactly. It will jb and unlock first generation iPhones and it will also jb iPhone 3G. Wether it will also unlock the current iPhones is still not clear. I believe this will happen, but it will not be part of Pwnage 2.0.

New blog post from the iPhone Dev team:
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/42583223/safe-code

So we’ve been working hard on getting the release ready and during this process we’ve been fixing some final bugs, the actual base of PwnageTool application is working fine and working with all devices that we support. We’ve been restoring our devices to various firmware revisions so that we can try to reproduce the conditions that most users will have. We are able to fully install any applications on any part of the current devices running 2.0 (and b103) and these versions are the iPhone 114, iPhone 2.0, iPhone 3G.

Apple released an update (b103) just before we were about to release and that support had to be added to the current version, it is pointless to release something that doesn’t work on devices out of the box (we’ve been told new 3Gs will have this firmware), we don’t want drama, and we want to do as little support as possible, so we want to make it right the first time.

It was lucky that we delayed slightly as we discovered a bug that causes unexpected behavior when using AppStore and Cydia on the same device. We are working on fixing that bug now, we don’t anticipate it is a big one, it has some really odd side effects, causing WiFi dropouts and the loss of stored passwords for WiFi networks. Of course this is only a minor software issue, nothing like the horrible static MAC address that another “elite byte adjuster” forced upon their users.

So, currently (when released) PwnageTool 2.0 will support:-

iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 - Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPod Touch with 2.0 - Activated & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPhone (3G) with 2.0 - Activated, Jailbroken (with support for third party applications).

We’ve made some progress on the baseband unlock of the 3G device, but at this point PwnageTool will not support 3G unlocking or BootNeuter on the 3G device. It is, of course supported on the first generation device with 2.0. We’ll push out an update with that support when it is completed.

As soon as we fix this up and test a bit more we’ll be ready for release, we’ll get back to you with a release schedule soon.

Please loosen that seatbelt slightly while our cabin crew serve you complimentary drinks.

Hey - I've got a quick question.
I'm a PC user who just bought an iPhone 3G.

I want to run one third-party application, Intelliscreen, which would give me the single-look calendar/message functions that i used to have with my Blackjack II.

i know this Pwnage tool won't work on a PC; so I'm wondering how I might get my iPhone jailbroken and this application installed.

I should also say that I'm not the savviest hacker or computer fiddler, though i can figure out how to make basic stuff work with good instructions.

Just wondering.. seriously, this is the only functionality I want; other than that I'm loving the phone.

get a friend who has a mac.
then wait for the jailbreak for 3g to come out.
then jailbreak

note, there might be a chance that the 2.0 firmware breaks the app u have, so there is a chacne that jailbreaking wold be pointless.
we dunno yet.

Thanks.. I figured I would wait awhile anyway to see if the app I want still works with the new firmware..

of course, all of this could be solved if Apple had just approved an app that would create a "Today" screen or something similar.

it's a small thing, i know, but it would really make a big difference for those of us who use the iPhone primarily for its business (email, calendar, contacts) purposes!

I have a 2G iphone on 1.1.4 and a Windows computer. What would the steps be to unlock it using someone else's mac? Here's my guess.

1) Restore and upgrade to 2.0 via itunes on my computer.

2) Dowload pwnage to a friend's mac, pwn the iphone.

3) That's it right?

I have a 2G iphone on 1.1.4 and a Windows computer. What would the steps be to unlock it using someone else's mac? Here's my guess.

1) Restore and upgrade to 2.0 via itunes on my computer.

2) Dowload pwnage to a friend's mac, pwn the iphone.

3) That's it right?

That seems like the best possibility, although you won't know until it comes out! I wonder if there is a Win/Mac incompatibility though..

If it is like the older version, you actually download 2.0 to the mac and pawnage alters the 2.0 ipsw (an ipsw is an Apple/Mac compressed disk image). The altered ipsw is what you upgrade with. Then pawnage alters the firmware if needed.

This might be a problem for you as your iPhone will not be "mated" to your friends mac.

At least, that is how I remember it.

couldn´t he maybe also just build the custom firmware on the mac then rename it to either zip or rar and the just put it on his phone thru itunes on his pc ... i´m not sure but wasn´t it that the leaked 2.0 firmware a couple of days came out as a zip and all the websites just told you to rename it ?

I see this method working actually.

btw, pardon my absolute newbness here. If I jailbreak my new 3G phone will I still be able to access the appstore at all to download those apps? My interest in jailbreaking is so that I can use some apps that are not on the store.

I didn't see this question answered anywhere. If someone jailbreaks (not unlocks) their iPhone 3G device to use non-AppStore applications (among other things), will this bring down the wrath of Apple when syncing, accessing the 'legal' apps in the AppStore, etc.?

Thanks in advance,

Guess by "not this weekend" they actually meant the next. However, in our wishful thinking it had to be Monday then.

They could also post a new video tomorrow, but I don't think there's much left we haven't seen yet ;)

The first time I wished they would have waited a little longer - I was just about to catch some sleep. It's 1 am and I've been tired all day :D

edit: Does anyone know an alternative source? Server seems to be down...
