Gunky memory, normal ?

Hi Everyone.

I took the plunge again and have come back to Macdom. I had a couple of sticks of matched memory for my standard white macbook. I popped out the old ram and put in the new.

However, the old memory, the metal contact pins, had a white substance on it. Is this normal? I'm thinking perhaps glue to prevent the memory from moving. Other than that, it can only be corrosion, and that on a 6 day old MacBook isn't good.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Also, is there such a key as minimise all in OS X Leopard?

Apple have been using some sort of white/grey substance on the RAM contact pins for a while now - looks like corrosion but isn't - possibly acts as a lubricant when pushing them into those tight slots.

Does not look nice but nothing to worry about !

Word to the wise...don't taste it once it's on your fingers....It tastes sooo nasty.

It's lithium grease used to make RAM installation at the factory easier.

As for your "minimize all" question, try Option-Command-M.

I think its normal. I was watching a video on youtube of a guy switching out memory and he mentioned how the memory already in there had white stuff on it (he made a smart remark about how its probably made by Samsung).

I doubt its something to worry about.
