Apparently, my university's wifi network is a WPA one. I was told several months ago that the 2.0 update would allow me to connect to the wifi, but I still can't. I was under the impression that the Touch supported WPA. Am I wrong? The university tech person said that it does not.

Yep. It sure does. Mine is WPA/WPA2. I would say that the university wifi is just weird. Talk to the tech guy and be sure to let him know that it does support WPA.

There are different forms of WPA/WPA2.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Protected_Access
Its a possibility they use the enterprise version of WPA, and I believe there were issues with WPA EAP/PEAP and the iPhone and Touch. I vaguely remember reading a post about this. I have never encountered this.
I did find this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6153643
But a new revision of the firmware could have solved this. Or this could be why your admin said the 2.0 firmware would fix this. I am not sure.
