View Full Version : Loopt spamming your contacts via SMS.

I just read on iPhoneAlley that loopt actually spams your contacts via sms. Has anyone had any problems with this yet? I have loopt and love it so far but wasn't aware it was doing this. So, I just deleted it. I hope the developers of this app remove this asap.

I haven't had it spam me, but it does send you updates via SMS on certain things like them leaving you a comment. If the person doesn't want to get these alerts, you can easily turn themoff within the app. I haven't had it text me anything that I did not know I would be receiving.

It doesn't spam you. It actually spams everyone on your contact list with an sms asking them to join loopt. I don't think that's cool at all.

wow that sucks. I haven't had anyone complain to me about that, but I'll be sure to ask around and see.

Someone from Loopt responded in the comments section:

We apologize for the confusion and unintended invites, but we want to let everyone know that the this issue has been fixed. We hope you'll continue to use Loopt and provide us with feedback.

Just so you know, here is what happened:

When you clicked the 'Who's on Loopt' button, all of your contacts that are current Loopt users were auto-selected to receive invites. A total count of people receiving invites appeared at the bottom of the screen. However, we have since disabled that functionality due to customer feedback and confusion. We are working on an improved invite flow that will include an invite confirmation screen that will be released very soon.
