MacWorld has an article about the latest PowerBook G4 systems (found at http://www.macworld.com/2002/07/reviews/powerbook.html).
The benchmarks from it are shown below... It looks like the new PowerBook more then holds it's own against a same speed tower.

I'm glad that I did go for the 800... then again, in the past, I typically go top speed on Mac's. When I get my new tower, I will go for the fastest single processor. I probably won't be able to afford to get the dualie, but the single should do everything I need it to.
Oh yeah, and who is going to fuss over a 1 second speed difference in Photoshop??? I sure won't. :D

i've got the 667. i really, really, really wanted the 800, i know it would have lasted me alot longer than the 667 will. oh well, this will have to do for the next 2 years.
at the moment i've only got 256MB RAM. i'll definitely be getting anoter 512MB, maybe two 512's!!!:D
it's got a 30GB HD and i've already used 6GB, just transferring my stuff off my PC. and thats not including any of the animations i've got. i might get a firewire external hard drive, i'll see how it goes.

I wonder if this 800 in the tests was with the 4200 drive or the 5400?
I think that would be important.
Oh and no one need compare this speed test to a pcheese as has been the case lately because in my book those strange beasts no longer apply since M$ hotmail attack.
I just read that review, WOW they really liked it, I am so happy that i waited
to get this version, way to go , MAC. finally! :)

The 40GB version of the Powerbook G4 800MHz comes with a 4200rpm Hard Drive.
The 60GB...comes with a 5400rpm Hard Drive.
That Powerbook that was reviewed had a 4200rpm Hard Drive.

well hell, that just means that mine will be even faster, I can take that lying down.
Anyone know if the 1000 rpm's really makes a difference?

I have seen that you can turn the level 3 off on the new Ti´s (the 800mhz can also get a rest at 667mhz)
have anyone tested the 667 with L3 off, can you feel a difference in speed, done any tests?
It wold be cool if someone tested the new 667 against the old 667, the Altivec test f.ex.
