Does "Push" Technology Drain 3G Battery?

Does anyone know that if "Push" is set to "On" will I experience significantly worse battery life? I love the feature, but have not been overly impressed with my 3G's battery life.

It shouldn't do. Your device isn't constantly polling the server checking for new data, your device just magically gets new data as it appears.

Then again, if you get a new email in every 5 mins, and so every 5 minutes 3G is becoming active downloading that message that has been pushed, this is bound to use more battery than if you were to just check manually once an hour for example.

Right, but since I am only using the 2G network (in Maine), I don't have the 3G drain. I guess it would only really drain the battery if you had a butt load of emails coming in.
