Hi,

I am looking at purchasing MobileMe. I have a couple of questions :

1. Domain
I have a personal domain name. If I were to register it on my MM account - would that domain be able to be used with all features of MM? I.e. can I set up email addresses with the domain name (like me@mydomain.net) ? Will iDisk make use of the domain name?

2. Reliabilty and Speed
What is the uptime like? What are speeds like for users in the UK? If I upload something to the iDisk will I be able to saturate a 20mbit line when downloading it again?

3. Sharing files
Is it really easy to share files on MobileMe? Can I set up a folder on the iDisk that is public, and I can just dump stuff in there that people can go to - where they are presented with a list of the files in folder that they can download?

4. Email
Is it right that there is a 20mb attachment sizelimit on email attachments? Has this ever been a problem for anyone?

Thanks

Sadly, no. AFAIK the only thing your own domain can be used with is websites created in iWeb.

Seems better for me than dot mac was (despite the chaos that others are reporting). You won't be needing a 20mbit line though; it's not that fast.

Yes. This is pretty useful. It's meant to be even easier to share large files soon, too.

It hasn't been a problem for me. Send a link to a file on your idisk, perhaps. My take on MobileMe is that its usefulness is the link with the Mac desktop apps and the ease of use: I have a family pack and various non-techy members of my family all have their own subaccounts: my parents can make webgalleries from iPhoto very easily, another member of the family maintains his own website using iweb now (instead of getting me to do it), we all have ical calendars published to mobileme and subscribe to each others calendars. All of these features, and the fool-proof ease of use from the iLife apps and other Mac desktop apps are what makes it worth it for me over just using free alternatives such as gmail, google calendars etc.

signed up and scrapped it after an hour. Very poor performance indeed

It is impossible to tell so far, as there hasn't been a problem day yet.

.mac was very slow - to date mobileme has been worse. My advice at the moment is wait and see what happens with it.
