I like the way messenger for mac looks, but it's missing way too many features....some that even msn messenger 5.0 had. I'd like to use my isight on messenger, seeing as I have 150 people on that and three on iChat. I'd love to play the games messenger 6.0 (again-windows) has, especially since they look like they were made for mac (the checkers men on the left look exactly like the icon for 3.5) I heard microsoft's "introducing" new products at mac expo...... anyone know if there'll be a spankin new msn messenger 4.0? If not, will there ever be one that's on par with the wintel version? Oh I forgot, mac messenger kicks me off way too much and I have dsl  ! I really dont enjoy using virtual pc. Thanks

Jonathan

I don't doubt that eventually there will be a new version of MSN for Mac but I sincerely doubt it will ever be on par with the windoze version. Another example is yahoo messenger... yahoo messenger for Un*x is more functional (if you can get it installed) that YM for mac, and it's not even written for OS X, more like a carbon app. MSN for Mac has gotten waay better than the previous 2.x versions, so I have some hope that if version 4.x is as better than 3.x as 3.x was better than previous, we may have a decent messenger, but most likely not up to what the windoze version can do.

I would have to agree, in the spirit of MS the Mac version will always be crippled and feature-parched.

Slightly off topic but If you're using multiple IM systems you might want to check out Fire
http://fire.sourceforge.net/

I use it for ICW/MSN/Yahoo/AOL its great and amazingly stable and also free (yay) :)

just thought i'd let people know as i haven't seen a mention of it yet in the forums.

cheers and Happy holidays

Fire crashes so bad so often on my iBook, both on Jaguar 10.2.8 and now Panther 10.3, 10.3.1 and 10.3.2.

It also has very little support for basic things such as font support...

Jonathon, i've got to say I've had the same bloody problems with msn for mac ever since i got it, who designed it should be sacked immediatly, i get disconnected at least once every 10minutes, we dont have compatible emoticons with MSN 6, we cant use the talk feature, theres not webcam feature, no games, nothing, the bloody thing hasnt been updated in over a year, MSN for windows is updated every couple of months! I'm tired of microsoft pathetically trying to force us to use their inferior systems and just hope that one day soon the problem can be resolved.

I agree, MSN crashes all the time, its unacceptable.

Anyway, MSN Messenger 4.0 is coming for Mac along with Office 2004 (see http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2004/Jan04/01-06Office2004IntentPR.asp )

This is what the Page says:

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Standard Edition. This includes Word 2004, Excel 2004, PowerPoint 2004, Entourage 2004 and MSN® Messenger Version 4.0. <------ THERE YOU GO

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Student and Teacher Edition. This is the same offering as Standard Edition, but is available for a discounted price for qualified students and teachers.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Professional Edition. This is the same offering as Standard Edition, but also includes Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 with Windows® XP Professional.

Obviously, it'll be a free download aswell.

Just signed, I was number 5389, so I imagine thats how many have signed too.

Microsoft better listen! Otherwise everyone will use Fire, whose file sharing capabilities are better (i've found them to be) than MSN.

Microsoft will release Mac products that serve their agenda as best as possible while courting their software relationship with Apple.

and that will give them a good excuse to stop development all together.

Gosh! Calm down :p I'm only joking :p

Microsoft provide us with excellent software (MS Office, Virtual PC, AOE!, etc) I'm sure no one will argue with that. I actually aim one day to be on their Graduate Scheme, got to go to university first though!

I understand they have to keep the competition, but at least webcam would be good.
