Stripes. What a joke.
Sorry, I know this is OT, but I had to say it.
On topic, I am amazed at the press the iPod is getting for XMas.
Voted - Have One, btw. But I want one with a 60GB drive, so I am waiting for Apple to update them a couple times so I can upgrade.

I asked for one this Christmas, but I don't think I got one. Oh well, maybe after MWSF I'll get a new one (hoping that new iPods will be announced). :)

Bought a 30gig for my girlfriend last night from our local apple store. Its not an official apple store mind you, just a really nice reseller, has the look and feel of a real one though. They had like 4 more 30gig and 1 more 40 and that was it.

BTW- I have a 40gb ipod and everyone in my family has at least a 20. So.... I had no need to buy an ipod as a gift or get one.
However, I would have given at least 2 of the mini ipods had they been avaliable. Why on earth is apple waiting 11 days after Christmas to put these out? Seems that they could have ramped things up a little bit and made a killing for the hollidays. Brings some doubt about the release for me.

Maybe because they aren't real, and we're setting ourselves up for disappointment
or maybe because it is in Apples History to release a new line of things January at mac expo ....
could be a whole slue of products for the 20th anniversary of Mac

I already have an iPod so I won't be getting one, and I'm in the 'wait for MWSF' mode to get it as a gift. My dad really likes the iPod and I think a smaller 2GB model would be perfect for him... I just hope they offer a dock, and remote package for one of them. I checked it out and it's only and extra $50 to get a 20 gig with the accessories theny to get a 10 gig and by the accessories seperately.

I'm still happy with my old 5 GB 'Pod, so I won't be getting a new one this year.
That said, if MWSF does see the release of a new 4 GB iPod, then I might be upgrading early next year (I'm getting tired of the old battery issues the 5 GB 'Pods still have).
Truth be told, I'd really just like an iPod in a funky color. :D

Bought a 40 Gb iPod for myself and gave several 20GB iPods as gifts.
Watching the few that opened their gifts early, undoing the wrapping paper, then trying to figure how to open the cool looking box and going through until they find the shiny prize.
"Wow it's a iPod!" "Excellent!"
Satisfaction guaranteed.
Needless to say it has been the most expensive Christmas EVER.

how many people would be interested in a slightly used 30GB?

Many different users have many different needs - by releasing these mini-iPods, Apple is catering to even more of the potential market out there - way to go Apple! I for one hope these mini-iPods are released, even though I'll be buying a 40 GB model myself in the new year.

I think that for me, a 40gb iPod would be total overkill. I would rather buy a mini-ipod for 150 and then spend the rest on a 250gb external firewire....

I'm going to send mine in for repair in a few more days. I've got the original 5gig and the battery has seen better days. My insurance on it runs out in a few weeks, and I'd rather have insurance replace the battery than me paying Apple to do it

Was there as soon as it opened, 3 40GB left and then as soon as I paid for it 2 more customers came in, PHEW!! lucky. And for my self a wireless router :) merry xmas everyone!!

roughly 12 gigs to the hour ... .at 250 Gigs thats like 20 hours of DV footage
I'de go for it ... just connect the iPod with the pre recorded footage to the computer and your ready to edit, a Pro videographers dream if you didn't have to loose time capturing.

Nope I got a select comfort bed. I'd take that any day of the week over an iPod because right now I'm sleeping in a crater. My 10 year old bed has been shot for at least 3 years and I swear it has been slowly killing me at least that's how I've felt every morning.
iPods are nice. A good night sleep is nicer. :P Plus I'm going to get a new iPod sometime in February anyways depending on what they announce in January.

I have thought about getting one of those select comfort beds myself, our current bed is also 10 years old. What is your sleep number SiliconAddict?
I'm with you MongoTheGeek, the iPod is just to expensive for just playing music. Currently would probably only use it one day a week.

I myself as a student couldn't justify the cost, but it was a nice gesture from my parents ... i'm finding a lot of uses for it though
1. i've loaded all my contacts from the address book
2. I've loaded all my schedules and calendars
3. being a student i'm on the bus quite a bit, and i spend time walking a lot from buildings to buildings, so having some music to listen to
4. I drive quite a bit, so getting the iTrip will be the excellent solution to my music needs in the car, burning CD's takes to much time, not to mention that i'm having trouble with burning them in iTunes.
- particularly in the winter when i go sking i drive for 2 hours one way, and i like to ski alone so having some music to listen to would be great
5. I like running and CD player skips, so the iPod will be a great solution, not to mention that it is lighter so it won't flop around as much ...
6. i plan on switching over to a digital SLR from my 35 mm SLR ... and memory cards are expensive, at 240$ for a 512 MB Compact 1 flash cards are reasonable if you need just one ... but i like to take a lot of pictures and i go away for several days where i don't have access to a computer, so dumbing my pictures isn't and option, so with the Belkin Card Reader, i get Tons of space to dumb all my pics .
I have family in europe and i go visit for several weeks at a time, and with no access to a computer. dumbing those pics to the iPod, will give me space to fill up a 512 MB card every day for over 35 days.
LOL .... i guess i've convinced myself already that this is useful ... haha

I did. I named it "eyePod," fittingly enough.
I'm already using it during my workouts & bike rides now. I also have my iTrip (FM transmitter) for the car on order thru apple.com.
I'll be getting one of the iPod skins, of some sort soon. I also have my eye on this sport pack setup, which would be better for bike rides than clipping it to my waistband. ;)

I just bought my 20GB iPod today and I'm very impressed. I would've bought one last year after Christmas but elected to spend the cash I received on a new DV camcorder. Incidently enough, the Apple store here in Hawaii was sold out and so were the two CompUSA locations. After some calling around, the lone Circuit City we have had (5) 10GB (7) 20GB and (6) 40GB models. I would've purchased the 40 but I've only got 6GB worth of music since 1999 when I first started downloading/ripping CDs into an .mp3 format. Love it but my only qualms were with the belt clip case Apple bundled with it. Sure wish it had a clear face so one could see through. In any case I went out and purchased a Jamjacket for my iPod. Can't wait to take it to 24hrfitness. The music they play in there I swear is meant to put you to sleep.

I have a Sony Walkman from the early 90's (1992 i think) ... i haven't used it in years though
i have a Sony Discman, but i found i never really got much use of it ... I got for my dads old car that didn't have a CD player so i had the tape adapter thing ... but when my dad started buying new cars and getting the multi CD changer options the thing became useless , it was to big to carry in a pocket, and always skipped when i used it from a backpack ...
this thing is so small that it really does fit anywhere
