Well as the title says, my iMac 20" (new only a couple months ago) will not power on fully. Holding down the power button i hear the disc drive (or hdd, not sure which) spin up for a few seconds then nothing at all, hold down the power button again and well whatever is running, powers off.

Would i just be better off calling up the place of purchase (as they are an apple reseller) and ask them for what to do next?

Edit: Nevermind, some bizzare reason it just powered on when i hit the power button again. Mods/Admin feel free to nuke the thread

Sounds like it could be a hard drive problem, or display problem! Try starting up from the restore disk that came with your mac; do this by holding down the "c" key. If this works it means you have killed your HD somehow, and probably have lost all of your stuff! If this does not work you need to take it to Apple and get it checked out, your logicboard or display may be dead! 🙂
