According to their website:
"So, currently (when released) PwnageTool 2.0 will support:-
iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 - Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications)"
Does this mean, with my 1. Generation jailbroken iPhone, to update from 1.1.4 to 2.0 in iTunes and can thereafter use the PwnageTool to jailbreak and unlock it again?
Thanks for any hints

No installer. I'm guessing that since Nullriver makes legit software for the iPhone, they will not be porting it to 2.0.

You can't unlock with this version, just jailbreak and activate. Cydia is another package manager like Installer.app but it is more advanced and it is open source.
The firmware files are in /Users/you/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/sdgsdgs.ipsw
To download the most recent one, plug your iPhone in and hit "restore" and unplug your iPhone. It will download to that location. Pwnage Tool will automatically find the firmware file for you once you do that.

I guess in this case you have to answer Yes to the question "Is your iPhone legit?". There is no reason to unlock if you are on the official plan.
mcdj
Jul 19, 2008, 06:57 PM
For those of you who have a bouncing dock icon and nothing else, reboot and it should open ok.
That said, what's really the point of jailbreaking TODAY? There's no Installer, no SSH, and most if not all apps previously working on 1.1.4 and lower are now incompatible with 2.0. They all need to be recoded. This is what I've read anyway...

Bootloader - ok, I have 1.1.4 - not sure about the 3.9 or 4.6

thereafter using the DEV tool to unlock and jailbreak
Right?

No, you first have to run Pwnage 2.0,
then it asks you for two .bin files, which you can find on page one of this thread*.
Then it writes a custom firmware to the Desktop.
The next step is to go into DFU (explained in Pwnage) and Option click on restore in iTunes to select the custom FW.
*If it asks for the bootloader select "no", then "yes" repeat when it asks you for the next bootloader. And if your iPhone has to be unlocked select "no" when it asks you if your iPhone is legit.
It's good that I have so much time for this because the first Sync is taking ages ;)

You are missing the point and purpose here- you HAVE to modify the ipsw to pwn a phone.... otherwise it is straight Apple software... and Apple does not issue pwnd ipsws.
If you want to pwn, you HAVE to mod the software. No other way.

I guess it's a timing issue. Ignore that iTunes is switching to focus and hold down power and home for ten seconds. After you release power make sure you are still holding the home button for another 10 seconds. You know it works if Pwnage switches back to the foreground.
And if you really want to do this with Pwnage's own timer you can close iTunes and kill "iTunes Helper" (use the app Activity Monitor to do so - if you don't use OSX in English you might have to search for it). That way iTunes doesn't start when you plug in the iPhone. But after Pwnage has build the custom firmware you'll have to start it manually.
PS:Grüße in die Schweiz - ich bin nicht mehr lange am Rechner. Totales Zombie :D

OK, I am in business. I had a website telling me incorrectly how to get into DFU mode. However, Pwnage Tool apparently wants to 'help' you into DFU mode. I started from a regular phone point and let it walk me through DFU mode, and now I am flashing my baseband.

It used to be 300 MB. I think they increased it because there were commonly disk space issues. Do what you want, but I wouldn't go below 300 MB and you shouldn't need more than 500 MB.

PS. the dev blog has just added a quick fix. Apparently create the Device support folder in the right spot, or delete whats in there already might help. Once my restore finishes I'll re-try with that.

You will need to. Ziphone udpates things in the iPhone software that it really shouldn't that prevent it from being compatible with new software. Restore to 1.1.4, upgrade to 2.0, pwn it from there. Make sure to choose that the option that the iPhone has NOT been pwned before.

I didn't think you were serious, sorry.
You can run Windows apps on a Mac by using wither Boot Camp to boot your Mac into Windows or by using a virtual machine such as Parallels or VMWare (there are other free VMs, but I haven't used them).
There is no out of the box solution to run Mac applications in Windows. You could try the Hackintosh route and setup your machine to dual boot between Windows and OS X. Google hackintosh or osx86. Good luck with that...
Maybe for you a Mini wouldn't be such a bad solution after all ;)

I unintentionally upgraded with the regular 2.0 from iTunes, instead of using the pwnage desktop version... Thought, it will take it automatically... Shame on me:(
Now everything is just black...
Whenever I now try to select the modified one, it gives me the error 1600.
For sure, the deleting of /itunes/device support doesnt help now anymore.
Any idea to bring it back with an downloadable peace of SW?
Thx
Just to be clear you keep the folder. That's how I fixed mine, I did not have that folder and once I made it I was prompted through the DFU steps.

Mines also said that but I just closed Pwnage, put the iPhone into DFU mode myself and restored using custom firmware but I got an error message 1600 which is listed on the iPhone Dev Team Blog. Follow my instructions below as this made mine successful.
Disregard the message in Pwnage saying it failed to enter DFU mode and close down Pwnage.
Put the iPhone into "Recovery Mode" using the instructions listed on the link below. You will know if this is successful as it will show the iTunes logo and USB cable afterwards.
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=367
After putting iPhone into "Recovery Mode", In iTunes, press the ALT key on your keyboard and click "Restore" at the same time. You will be presented with a box, you should locate the custom firware produced in Pwnage and click open. It will begin to Restore and that should be it.

Ok I got it to work the second time. It was fairly easy.
The first try I did the automated method for the Original iPhone.
I have it Jailbroken/Unlocked to V2.0
The easier to save everything in one directory.
1. Download Pwnage 2.0 (Here (http://rapidshare.com/files/130983628/MiRROR.ZeNoVa-PWNAGE.TOOL-2.0.zip)
2. Download Bootloaders (Here (http://iphonefreakz.com/iphone-firmwares/))
3. Download Firmware from iTunes, this is the best method. (stored in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates)
4. Click on the iphone and do Expert mode
5. Follow the steps to pick the Firmware and the two bootloaders.
6. then Under the expert panel you should see 6 icons and the Build button at the bottom.
7 click on general and select update baseband.
8 Everything else should be setup automatically (all the settings for different icons)
9 You can change to default apple logo from the pineapple logo under the custom logo icon.
10. Build
11. Save it to the same folder or somewhere u can find it again
12. Put iphone in recovery mode (*Keep it connected to the computer via the USB* Turn it off then hold home button until you see connect to computer. Some phone you will have to hold sleep/wake + home button after the phone is turned of to put it into recovery)
13. After its in recovery, goto itunes and you should see the iphone. click on restore while (alt/option is pressed). This will open a dialog and ask you for the ISPW (firmware) file. Select the firmware you just built.
14. Let it fully restore the phone.
15. Enjoy

Yes you can just activate it without unlocking it. See Screenshots. You go into "General Settings" and select "Activate" then select the "Blue Arrow". That will take you back to the main screenshot where you click "Bootneuter" and you can see that you can uncheck "Unlock Baseband" then just click "Blue Arrow" again. After you have selected your customized settings you just click "Build"

I compiled this app on my PPC Mac if that makes any difference, but I doubt it would.
