How to Partition on OS X?

How to make partitions under OS X? Disk Utility with Panther doesn't allow me to do it when I have only have one partition with OS installed. When I reinstall Panther,I don't remember it gives me any options to do it either. Any suggestions?

You can partition from disk utility if you boot from the OS install disk. You probably know already, but I have to say it just in case--this will destroy all data on the drive.
