So I would like to use my iPhone as a remote for my iTunes but I am not connected on a wifi connection. I am at a university and my iMac is connected to the internet through an ethernet port. I have tried broadcasting a wireless connection from my iMac but my iPhone will not seem to connect. Can anyone help or does anyone else have a set up where their computer that their iTunes library is one is not connected through a wifi connection but yet they can access iTunes from their iPhone? Thank you.

i dont see why you cant just make a network with your imac as an ad-hoc network and just have your phone connect to it... you might not have internet access but should be able to connect to the device for that.

I tried that but it didn't seem to work. I was wondering if someone else could try it to see if it is just me.

I had the same issue with my machine. It was set up for a static IP I solved the problem by:
1)Creating a new network location for the ad-hoc network
2)Setting the Mac to DHCP
a) the ip address will probably be something like 169.254.18.168
b) The subnet mask will be something like 255.255.0.0
3) Connecting my iPhone to the network
4) Setting the iPhone's IP to static, with the Mac's IP as a base, ie 169.254.18.169
5) Setting the Router and DNS on the iPhone to the Mac's IP address
Since I don't have internet at home, this worked well.
But you'd probably be better off sharing your ethernet connection via Airport (system prefs/sharing/internet sharing) so you can get wifi in your room via your mac's ethernet.
