I got my iMac and Love it!

Hey all,

Just wanted to shout out! Ive had my iMac for 3 days now (2 sleeps) 😛 I've used OS X before but I got the top range iMac. I'm a web developer and I just wanted to also say that it's so much easier to code on a mac than it is on a pc. I just love it when I turn on my mac in the morning... It makes me happy to hear the sound of the 'DEEEER' 😀

By the way, you don't need to shut down or restart OSX everyday (even though shutting down and starting up is fast.)

There are people that keep OSX up for months at a time but it all depends on what you run.

Try learning some keyboard shortcuts. It'll speed you up even more. =)

For example,

Command ~ cycles through windows in an app.
Command TAB shows a list of open apps, and you can use command tab, mouse, or keyboard arrow to select the app you want to go to.
 
I had a 16 day uptime until my MacBook just suddenly lost wireless. I still suspect the rampant saturation of wireless networks (at another location) was the cause but I did get my wireless back after rebooting.

I sleep my Macs otherwise.
 
Congrats! i feel the same way about my iMac. like consultant said you dont need to shut down every night, i bought my iMac 12 days ago and had an uptime of 11 days until i had to restart yesterday to install my 4gb ram kit that came in from crucial. and it runs smoothly everytime i wake it up

Still waiting for ABS to process mine, but I hope it is as good as your's and everyone else's on this thread.

BTW, what happened to 'US hit by huge power rises' type headlines - electricity must be v v v v v cheap if everyone is not turning things off. Global warming anyone?

Rock on, as the saying goes. I rarely shut my iMac down at night, because I'm usually rendering video. I just hit control-shift-eject to put the screen to sleep. You can eveb use the remote to put the machine to sleep. Again, congrats.

(p.s. after one month, I ended up buying the wireless mouse and keyboard and love them).
 
I agree about the shutting down at night, I'm not a n00b to OS X. I hacked Leopard before to run on my TOSHIBA. But Shortly got rid and went MAC 😛

keyboard shortcuts are good, I know most of them. To be honest, Since I got my iMac, I tend to be on YouTube a lot more and doing fun stuff. When your on Windows, your constantly worrying about Anti Virus, Performance, etc. But on a Mac, you'll notice that you dont have to worry about a virus, or performance or anything even related to that.

I have a few questions
- When I'm playing Call of duty 4 on Boot camp (Windows XP) After a few hours of play (3/4 hours) the iMac will get hotter and the Video card will 'Lag' alot when playing. I tried to leave it 30 minutes just too see if it would make a difference, and it didn't until I started playing about 5 minutes in again. Why is this? I got an nVidia GeForce 8800 GS.

- I didn't eject the Time machine drive in windows and just pulled it right out. Then once I booted back into Mac OS X and ran Time Machine with Video recording software, I got a crash (2 days from first boot), I think this was the video recorder, as I tried with it again and it messed up my mighty mouse too, so I removed it since and it's all good.

- HELP! I can't get away from the 'Default' desktop, I swear this thing is too perfect. I changed my desktop picture and dock, and within 2 minutes I couldn't stand it any longer and made it how it looked when i got it again xD I can't customize this desktop, its too perfect! I swear I've got OCD on my PC's/Macs. LOL Any suggestions for OCD for Computer? LOL

i got my imac high end 20".
my first mac and wow,never ever going back.
its very fast compared to my pentium 4, 6 year old hp pc.

Apparently, it makes Pixar happy, too-- that sound appears in "WALL·E", when the title character finishes recharging.

There are other options to turning it off. Hibernate is one option (or is that a Windows term?) It turns most of the power off and stores info on the HDD so it can turn back on pretty quickly. My MBP automatically goes to sleep after a certain number of inactive minutes, which uses a ton less power. We're not keeping them totally running all night. No worries. 🙂
