I have an unlocked 1.1.4 iPhone. Is there any simple way of updating it to 2.0 without losing all of my settings/contacts etc.

Thanks in advance.

Update, jailbreak (you can't unlock yet), and then restore. You'll get your contacts, etc. back. That's all there is to it.

I was under the impression the old 2g phones were still able to unlock with the pwnage tool, it's just the new network hardware that are stopping the 3G iphones. I need to unlock as my iPhone is on another network.

So was I, but it didn't when I used Pwnage to go from 1.1.3 to 2.0...

If you have the old iPhone, Pwnage will Activate/Jailbreak/Unlock your iPhone with firmware 2.0. Everything will be preserved as long as you have a backup in iTunes (itunes>preferences>synching). Follow this tutorial (http://www.hackthatphone.com/20/pwnagetool_2_1st_gen_iphone.html) and you will have an unlocked iPhone in some 30 mins.

Ah I don't have a backup so I'll lose all my data, I don't care about the music and videos it's just the contacts. I manually entered them at the start so there is nothing to sync.

Wait, got it. Thanks for all the help, I'll try updating now.

I believe if you start to sync your contacts with Address Book, it will upload all your current contacts to your computer, and then you can just resync them to your updated phone.

Yes you can activate/jailbreak/unlock the 2G iPhone. Just make sure when click NO when it asks, "Are you a legit iPhone user?" I upgraded from 1.1.4 to 2.0.

*facepalm* I said "Yes" to the legit iPhone user question... thought it was a theft thingy...:p

I had a problem resyncing when I went to 2.0.

No idea why, but I synced in 1.1.4 then pwned fine to 2.0 and everything worked great. Resynced but upon reboot the iPhoen got stuck on the Apple logo with the 'cog' wheel spinning over the top - it never made it to the springboard on the phone although iTunes would recognised it as connected fine. In the end, I re-pwned and didn't sync - just copied the .db files for notes and SMS over manually and resynced contacts from new.

A few hours later, just didn't like the App store offerings (crippled weDict which is very important for me to have multiple dictionaries and a thesaurus), plus other programs I need and miss from installer that are free (Sketches, iChinese, fring, iStudy, VideoRecorder, ruBooks, etc, etc). Decided to go back to 1.1.4 and give the app store 6 months to settle down.

I have a 1.1.4 1g iphone that when I plug into my computer (itunes 7.5 or .7.6 I can't remember) it asks me to activate by providing my phone number and account information.. I don't want to do this ( I have a 39.99 contractless account with AT&T for a voice plan on my sim card and am not interested in data/edge at all) so how do I get the 2.0 firmware upgrade on my phone to then jailbreak/activate/unlock with pwnage tools?
