In the period leading up to the war, it now turns out that a special M16 operational team was formed to plant "news" items in the media which exaggerated or misrepresented the extent of Iraq's WMD capability with the express intent of gaining public support for war.

So now we know. What smelled like ****** all along turns out to have been ******.

Wow. That's a pretty heavy-handed way to plant a story. You'd think they'd use a little more tact than to immediately whip out an assault rifle. ;)
