I once read a book about subliminal messaging - while I do agree that it carries some influence (the subconscious mind is amazing in what it picks up and remembers), I don't believe that it makes people mindless, sex-obsessed zombies that live on Pepsi. it may hype up the mind to a limited extent, it does not carry hypnotic powers of salesmanship.
