To be honest, I don't really see any problems or differences in fit when using the older iVolution SP with the 3G iPhone. At least I can't tell from the photos.

It fits pretty well. Visually, the difference is that you can see the chrome bezel peeking through with the 3G, but I quite like that. Makes it look a little like the new and extortionate ivolution Top SP Silver! :D ;)

I would not have guessed... then again, you are very lucky it fits the 3G.

And mine (albeit mine was for the original iPhone), and I posted numerous photos in the early pages of this thread. Here's a reminder. :)

Can anyone speak with first hand experience to the issue of fit of the 3G iPhone in the Vaja case for the original iPhone. Specifics and pics would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm going to go with the iVolution SP (not the top) the one with no screen cover. Im going to get it in dark blue with a vibrant green stripe with my future white iPhone. I dont like the whole flap thing on the top, it looks cool, just not my thing, and since the most dangerous place this baby is going is my pocket with nothing in it i really dont think ill have problems with scratches.

This is the plan:

so what u guys think of that combo?

I would LOVE to know what it is that you have covering your screen! Could you tell me what it is, where you got it, and how much it is? Also, was it easy to apply? Thank you for any information you can provide.

That is a film by Invisible Shield. You can get one here (http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/apple-iphone-3g-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php) Seems to be $14.95 for just the front cover, I bought the front and back pieces for $24.95.

The front piece was very easy to apply but the back piece was pretty hard. The corners are the most problematic to get right on the back piece.

Does the iPhone fit into your new case with the back piece of the Invisible Shield still fitted or did you have to remove it?

Yes it fits to the case with the back piece still on place, I have mine still on. It's very grippy though and practically impossible to slide the phone away from the case, I can only remove the phone by lifting it from the sides. Therefore the case is always on, which is not that bad of an option ;)

Thank you for the information, jaask! I appreciate it. I believe I will get the front piece. Since I intend to keep mine in the case, I won't need the back piece. I just can't wait to get my case!

Just got my black and white case in today (white stripe). It's excellent except for one thing. Where the insignia is stamped in on the front it sort of bubbles up the leather around it a bit and actually looks like it pulls part of the white stripe in a bit to give it an uneven look. It looks like the stripe isn't straight quite as much as It should be. Like someone didn't cut it properly or something. I dunno. For that much money I was expecting this thing to be flawless. Other then that it looks great. If I knew the stripe was going to be an issue I would have just got the black one with no stripe. Hmm...

Anyone else have any issues like this? I can post pics if you guys really want me to. But from the other photos I can kind of see that others are getting a little bubbling too. Maybe it just sticks out more because it's the white on black. :(

I'll post some pictures this weekend. It's sort of killed the joy I had about getting this new case. I can do with the "bubbles" but the stripe being uneven towards the bottom kind of irks me. I don't know that they'll do anything. And I don't want to wait another month and a half for another one. Ugh.

I had a similar bad experience with their product. The stripe was off from the center, and it had glue residues all over the place. And the colors didn't look anything like what I saw from their web site. Also the surface wasn't very even (had bumps in odd places). Considering the high cost and all the waiting time, it was a huge let down for me... and I had to return it. At least return was easy and painless even though I had to eat shipping both ways.

These were taken with my iPhone so I'm sorry for the bad quality. Hopefully you can see a hint of the bubble near the insignia. It's almost like they had it tear through the portion of the the leather. There are also some circular markings/indentations up the white stripe. And as you can clearly see the white stripe buckles in near the bottom. I can take more pics with a better camera this weekend if needed. Sucks to hear others are having a bad experience with these too. Not sure if I wanna go through the hassle of sending this back tho if I'm paying for shipping both ways. Sucks. The case is great other then this. I should have just got it without the stripe. What do you guys think?

Here's my opinion, and I'm very picky. It isn't a big deal, and is a natural result from working with thick materials like leather. However, only you can determine if you are going to be okay with it.

I would probably be a little upset, talk with my wife, get a second opinion (from someone in person), and be okay with it in a week or two (provided they didn't see any big deal).

But, if you are losing sleep over it, and you think that is going to continue, send it back. It is just a case -- it isn't worth it.

I seem to have a practically flawless case. I was dreading having a defective one, as I have read about the off-center stripe before, and the glue residue, but my case is so far very well-built. In my opinion, you should return your case for a new one. If you paid good money, you better expect good quality for it.

I think a new model just came out for the 3g. The ivolution GT. I think its new, and i say this because i never noticed it until this morning. Its like the TOP SP except its 2 thinner stripes down the middle and the logo is moved to the top right corner.

I dropped my iPhone! I was walking through my kitchen, with my phone in hand, when I fumbled with it and it bounced onto the tile. The Vaja Case landed face-down, and when I picked it up in shock to check if it was okay....

There was not a SCRATCH on it or on my iPhone. It looked flawless. Now I know my iPhone really is well-protected AND sexy :D.

Sep 6, 2008, 02:16 PM
It's starting to not bother me quite as much as it was when I initially got it. It is a wonderful case and does protect the phone quite well. If you're not looking for the defect it doesn't exactly scream at you. Maybe I'll contact Vaja and ask for a coupon or something as I'm not happy that I paid over 100 bucks for a non perfect iPhone case. I mean, it was hard enough to tell the woman and such that I was buying an iPhone case at 100 bucks. People looked at me like I was stupid! lol Now I sort of feel like I was. But I do like the product overall. Thanks for the emotional support, guys. Heh. Maybe in a few months when the wait time drops a bit I'll get another one and sell the other on eBay. Heh. Anyone know how the resell experience is?

Also... to the thread starter... stop changing the name of the dang thread! You're newly updated information is going to be hard to find for people anyway if it's not in the first post. I thought this was just a Vaja 3G iPhone Ivolution thread. Not a personal thread to post a review, etc. I couldn't find this thread this morning when I was looking for it. Just a word to the wise.

Over a week ago, I got lucky enough to order the Vaja iVolution Black & Red special edition for the 3G iPhone. Well, after multiple emails for confirmation and over a week's wait, I find out that the site cut off my card number and I did not get the order in. They have said they sent an email telling me of the problem, but I never got an email.
So...as pissed as I was that I wasn't getting my case, and mulling over whether I wanted to wait for the Black & Red edition to be in stock again, I ordered the GT.
Now for the wait!
I ordered a Black w/white stripes iVolution GT, w/ clip & personalization...30 day wait.
I will keep everybody informed and post pics as soon as I receive my Argentina leather special.

I feel like I'm going crazy over some stupid case! lol ARGH! Why can't they just sell this stuff at Best Buy? Heh.

Why don't you take a couple of pics in "macro" mode on your camera and send them to Vaja. See if they'll make you another one and send it to you before you have to send that one back???

Here are a couple. My camera is horrible so this is about as good as I could do. Sort of weighing my options between the hastle of dealing with not having a case, shipping it back for the return, etc. You're right tho. It might at least be worth sending them an email and see where it gets me.

You can see hints of the bubbles from where the insignia was placed. You can also see that the stripe isn't straight all the way down towards the logo as well. Also in one of the pics you can see the hints of the "circles" up the white stripe. Looks like something was pressed into it. Perhaps an artifact of a tool they used to press the stripe down onto the leather when glued on.

These cases are great. I love it overall. But the stripe job just seems tacky to me. If I were to go with one of their cases again I'd just go with the solid ones. Just my two cents. Interested to hear your thoughts.

Here is the letter I sent to Vaja. I will post their responses and my interactions with them as my experience goes on...

"Vaja products are made to ensure satisfaction and service during the natural life of the product. It warrants to the original purchaser that its products will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of 1 year from the date of the purchase."

Hello,

I sampled that from the FAQ on your website and I certainly hope that is the case. I ordered a Vaja has from you over 45 days ago and received the other day with much anticipation. I had read rave reviews of your product line and have seen a great amount of praise in reference to the build quality and overall experience with your iPhone cases.

When I opened my case I was disappointed to find that it had some minor defects that soured my initial and continued impressions of your case. Near the Vaja insignia you can see some bubbling and stretching occurring on the white leather. I'm assuming this is from improper placement of the metal logo. All the pictures I had see showed the logo sitting nice and flush against a flat colored background. This was not the case with my Vaja case. But this wasn't really the worst thing. The thing that continues to catch my eye everytime I pick it up is the striping seems to be buckling near the logo. This causes the stripe to not appear straight but rather improperly cut. Also note (not visible in the pictures included) that the edges of the white leather stripe do not have a clean cut. You can see hints of the white edges moving in and out. Also in one of the pics you can see the hints of the "circles" up the white stripe. Looks like something was pressed into it. Perhaps an artifact of a tool they used to press the stripe down onto the leather when glued on. So needless to say I wasn't satisfied with some of the aestetics of my case.

That said the case overall fits wonderfully, works great and is sturdy. I don't have a problem with the overall design of your product. What I do have a problem with is paying upwards of $100 for an iPhone case and having significant visual flaws. This is an expensive case. You guys have a reputation of being of the highest quality when it comes to cases. This is why people continue to shell out more money for your products when they could just as easily go with something that is a fraction of the cost. What I want to know is what you can do for me? I'm not trying to be malicious or anything. I just wanted you to know how excited I was to recieve your product and how let down I was once it arrived. I hope you can make this right for me and I believe, based on your reputation, that you will.

So please let me know what you can do for me as soon as possible and I'd greatly appreciate it. I really don't want to be without my case and I don't feel its fair to have me send this thing back and wait another month and a half for another one. Like I said before, the case itself is great. But if I had known how tacky the stripe would have ended up I would have just settled for a plain black version of this case with no stripe or rather the Black and Red edition of this case instead. Please let me know what can be done.

My invoice/order number is: 9XXXX

I have been documenting my experience with your company at MacRumors.com on this forum thread ( http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=530408&page=12 ). I will be posting this letter and posting your replies as well so other people can see how my experience with your company has been. Just as a sort of review of my overall experience. I'm sure it will be wonderful and am looking forward to your response. Thank you very much and take care.

I have the same thing on my white Vaja case. There are some small bump-like features at the spot where the Vaja logo is. The line on my case is also not perfectly straight.

I remember somebody posted some time ago about his Vaja case and how the line on his is also not perfectly straight.

I sort of expected these as this is a leather case and such imperfections are in my opinion normal. These are hand crafted so I was not expecting everything to line up like something that was injection molded or something.

Sorry to hear about yours, I hope you get results from the letter that you will send.

I got my first Vaja case this weekend. I ordered the ivolution SP with a belt clip, but have also just ordered the Crystal 2 with a strap.

Online, it looks average to me, so I really held out for a year b/c I almost bought one for my 1st gen iPhone. Now that I have it, I have no regrets.

1. Unique Factor: The iPhone is less of a novelty now with its $200 price tag. So showing off an iPhone is not the sign of prestige that it was at $600. If you want to be unique now, ut's all about what your iPhone is wearing. Vaja brings the sexy back :)

2. The Clip: When I lie things down, they tend to get left behind. With a clip, my iPhone stays with me, but doesn't make me look masculine with a toolbelt on my hip. I wear nice clothes, and I'm a lady. It allows me to maintain style.

3. The Wait = A unique case that not everyone has.

I ordered the Vaja Ivolution SP for the iphone 3G on July 25, and I got it today. It was shipped on September 3rd, and supposed to arrive on September 5th, but it got delayed in customs in Argetina. At least that's what Fedex said when I called them. 45 days was September 7th, so they were pretty much on target.

It's orange with white stripe down the middle. It looks great. The perfect color of orange in my opinion. I'm a Clemson University alum so its my school colors. :)

The flap doesn't bother me at all, even when talking on the phone. And I don't think the flap looks weird when talking, it just looks like a big flip phone to me. Like others said, I can just flip it back.

Overall I'm extremely satisfied with it. The only SLIGHT defect I have is that the paint under the top clasp is chipping a little, but honestly, there is no way anyone would see that unless you looked very closely, and like others have said its probably due to friction with the sim card tray.

Finally, I can put my iphone in my pocket and not worry about the screen getting scratched. I'm very satisfied.

Great letter.

I think that they should make another for you while allowing you to hold the one you have. Of course, the one you have would suffer add'l wear and tear -- not good for re-sale. However, you don't deserve to suffer wihtout a case because you purchased a case, waited and should have received the quality promised. They should accompany your request and put more thought into quality checks.

Great news guys! I heard from Vaja Customer Service today and they've really taken care of me. I just wanted to pass along the next few emails that were exchanged. Hopefully my experience will put some of your minds at ease as it has mine. I'm sure I'll be back for more cases from them in the future.

"Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the pictures. They are being analyzed by our Product Department now, and as soon as they have passed a reply, I will contact you immediately.
Do not worry since we will find a solution for this issue.

"Ryan,
I have received a reply from our Product Department. Please let us provide an explanation about this issue. Regarding the logo, the metal emblem has two sharp flaps that pierce the leather to remain attached; you will always see the place where they are fixed since they pierce the leather.; that is the effect any pierced object makes on leather. And this is specially noticeable in lighter tones. Anyway, the logo placement should have been more neat in your case, according to our quality requirements.
What we can offer you is to replace it by the limited edition black and red, if you want, which will be back in stock these days. You will be able to get it sooner than a replacement custom unit.
If you want a new SP case, we can also offer to exchange it by the case you received. But it will take longer to get it produced.
Upon new case's reception, the original item should be returned to us for inspection
.
Please let us know if this is convenient for you

My case arrived today. It sat in Argentina for 5 days before being released and then another 2 days for delivery stateside

Anyways, it's black with a red stripe. I don't see any manufacturing issues. Looks and smells great (although, I'm not one to go around routinely sniffing cases...). Fits like a glove and adds very little bulk.

The first pic may look a little orange, I tried to adjust the color on the second of the 2 pics. But in person it is bright red.

a bit orange looking...

OK, I can't resist! Just received my anniversary present- took one month, which was short of the 45 day promise...
If I uploaded the picture right, mine is dusty olive with tastefully placed white/clear SWAROVSKI Crystals that are also quite subtle. I'm not a crystal person, but this is really different, which was I was looking for! The engraving color depends on the color of the leather, so that, too, is pretty subtle. Like others, I wanted something special to house my IPHONE. Now when I grab and go, the little twinkling from the case is a nice touch and turns heads. What a geek-ette I'm turning into! :p

Nice!!! A hot geek-ette. That's good stuff. how do you know it's swarovski (edit: yes, it does say on website)? does it say anywhere on the website? I've been thinking about getting one for Wifey but I'm waiting to get one myself to see if the quality is worth >$250

Pretty... haha. I like the effect of the pink crystals on the dark leather. Not how I imagined that case to look like in person... looks much more elegant than on the site.

Well, is anything that small that houses a cell phone worth $250?? My Coach bags are more, and I use them for once season. This case is really classy, definitely protects the phone, and makes for a great gift for the wifey who has everything :) Honestly, how many more bracelets or watches could he buy me, so it was a little splurge on something very different that we wouldn't normally splurge on- like a cell phone case.

With such an array of colors, it makes a great gift. My second choice would have been the one that they show(ed) with the crystals when they first made if for the 3G (it was originally only available for the original phone). Baby blue with dark etching and white crystals would look great clipped to a jeans belt loop. :)

Don't get the strap, get the clip- the strap is small, and in my mind it is useless. I wanted the clip, but when I ordered it, it wasn't an option on the website. After I ordered it and inquired, I was told if I already ordered the strap I couldn't get the clip. I told them the clip wasn't an option to check of but never heard from them again about it. Unfortunately, I didn't know the clip was available to begin with! Oh well.

Thanks for the info!!! My wife has almost everything as well. :) But she keeps the phone in her purse all the time. I'll have to buy the black n red for myself once it's back in stock to see how i like the quality. I'm very picky. If it passes my approval, then i'll most likely get it for her (hopefully here by Christmas time).

Sounds like a plan! Picky, you WILL like it, trust me. Great quality. Worth >250? That is debatable, it's smaller than a purse and doesn't do as much as a wallet. I'd say no on the price. Maybe more like 175 (like a fine leather wallet maybe). But the design, protection, and leather combined bring it damn close to its value! Enjoy!

I received my case this morning and, this being my first vaja purchase, i can honestly say that the quality is top-notch; one of the finest i've seen. I opted for a reed yellow case with a vibrant orange stripe - those being my favorite colors and living in Saudi Arabia it helps against the sand. I couldn't find my digital camera so photo booth will have to do but when i get a chance i'll post proper pics.

I was reluctant to get a white/soft colored case for my black 3G thinking it might not look too hot, but yours looks very nice.

Thanks alot. Although you can't really tell from the poor lighting its reed yellow blends subtly with the orange. I was expecting the inside to be red (like in the black cases) and made my picks with that in my mind, but all in all, i'm very pleased with how this turned out.
In many respects, the case feels like a wallet and making it black, to me, cancels out the distinguishing (for lack of a better word at the moment) factor about it. Don't get me wrong, the cases i've seen in this thread are all gorgeous.
One thing you should know though is that with use the leather gets worn and the creases may flatten and fade. To me this has happened on the side where i press to pull the front off. I wouldn't expect that to happen with the dark colors (with any luck i'll find my digital camera and show you what i mean).

I really think these cases are nice, except I wish they came with a model that had full protection but wasn't a flip out style case. In other words I want a SwitchEasy Colors style case (full protection, no flip-out etc.) but made with the leather, and hand-made quality of Vaja.

I finally got my BEAUTIFUL, AWESOME, and quite frankly SEXY Vaja case, today. I'm very pleased with it. The smell of the leather is intoxicating. I ended up putting a small piece of scotch tape over the SIM Card Tray, because it rubs against the underside of the upper lid. I took a few shots with my iPhone, so, they aren't the greatest quality. The color is black with rosso stripe. It looks orange in the shots, but, in reality it is a nice red. I just wanted to share my joy with you all!

YES- I gave to admit that as nice as the case is, as well constructed and nice leather, the drop down is getting very annoying, as is the fact that every time you charge or update your ipod, you have to open it. I didn't think it would bother me when I ordered it, and it does a bit. But it's pretty!

I thought the flip down would bother me, but actually it doesn't. Opening the case is much easier than I had expected, and the flap hanging there is not all that annoying. My ONLY complaint is having to have the case open while charging, especially in the car, where it has to lay on the passenger seat.

I am so happy I ordered this case. I really love it, and it looks great covering the iPhone 3G. The top flap hanging down is not a bother at all, and the case is easy to open. As others have said, the only thing that I don't like is having to have the case open to charge. However, it's just a minor complaint. All in all, this is the best case I could have ordered for my iPhone 3G.

Also, it should be noted for those looking to order a case, it appears that they have dropped the time to create most of the cases to 20 days. MUCH better than the 45 days (plus shipping time), that I had to wait in order to get mine.

Nice cases everyone. Does anybody know if an iPhone with bodyguardz on will fit in a Vaja case?

Yes, sure will! It is in the case a bit tighter than normal, and the front flap, if you get a case with one, snaps on a little tighter.

For those of you on the fence about the Vaja cases, I'll weigh in on mine.

I got the black and red special edition with no clip. It looks fantastic -- really the best looking case I've seen yet. It is very slim, and doesn't add bulk, but the leather is soft and somewhat pillowy due to the thin layer of padding between it and the ABS form underneath. The texture on the special edition looks great and adds an expensive feel to it. The red interior makes for a nice surprise whenever it is opened. Very sharp from an appearance standpoint.

I do find the front flap annoying, particularly because it has to be left completely open to plug in a charge cable and it won't fit in the universal dock. It is a shame they didn't put the hinge at the top -- I think that would have made it easier to use.

It came in about three days after I ordered it too, so that was certainly a pleasant surprise!

Okay, I ordered my iVolution GT case on 5 Sept, credit card charged on 8 Sept. The production time when I ordered was 30 days. It's now over the 30 days...so I emailed Vaja:

Hello,

I emailed recently to find out where my case was in production. I was informed, by an ambiguous general statement that it would be 30 for production time.

Within the past week, Vaja has decreased it's production time from 30 days to 20 days. One would guess that you are completing orders faster than expected.

I ordered my case on 5 September. My card was charged on 8 Sept.

I now ask kindly for a specific time as to the shipping of my case? It has been over 30 days now.

REPLY:

Dana,
We are having a considerable demand at present, which is bringing about some delay in our production schedule. We are working now to reorganize our production processes, but until we can completely achieve that, the delay is still present. Anyway, our Production Department is already aware of your request and they will try their best to speed up its release. We estimate your order may take another week to get finished.
But, if you consider this wait not proper and want to cancel the order, we can perfectly understand it; please let us know and we will do it.

Best regards,

Maria Cecilia

I have been waiting for the Black & Red to come back in stock on the Vaja site. I finally got tired of waiting and ordered up a iVolution 2 in black with the dark blue stripes. I checked the Vaja site again last night and now they are available. Only they have changed to Black and Orange. I liked the look of the red better than the orange. They had a couple of new cases as well for the 3G. It is going to be a long 20 days until my case ships. I will post some pics when I get it.

After being ten days late after the 30 day estimate, they finally sent me the FedEx shipping e-mail. I clicked the link and FedEx said it would ship be shipped in five days.

I wait five days. No luck, and the damn 'expected arrival' field still said the same day. I called FedEx (hard) and after digging, they say, "Huh, it's sitting in customs." the woman seemed absolutely puzzled. After well over an hour, she finally managed to get it back on board, so it seemed, and said it would be delivered Thursday (today) before 5:00PM).

It's past then now, and I'm still caseless. I call them yet again, quite pissed off this time, as the company doesn't even know how to do an accurate estimated delivery, yet alone if a product is sitting in customs for eternity.

Anyway, she says she wants my visa card number again (what?), and I'll be hit with $20 on top of what I've already been paid. Why? I refused, talked to a manager, and after well over two hours of bickering and very pissed off diversing, she said it will be another week until it's delivered.

FedEx. Are. Idiots.

Can't wait for my case, though.

You were almost right about it being sold out. The version without the clip is now "Out of Stock".

I'd love to order one, but, I just can't justify the expense, right now, with Christmas coming up, and so many other things I want to get.

I'm very happy with my current Vaja case, but, someday I will order one of these LE cases. I like the grain of the leather, and the solid black color on the outside.

I've received my vaja iphone 3g case ordered a month ago. Overall, I think the build quality is not as good as the original iphone 2g one, but it is still good. But I have problem with the silence switch on the 3g case because the back of the case is too wide which made it hard to switch off the silence switch on the side of the iphone 3g. Does anyone with the 3g case have the same problem? The original iphone 2g case was well designed, not sure about the new vaja 3g case...

Vaja cases are the absolute best cases you can get for the iPhone! I had one for my 1st gen iPhone and I have one on the way for the 3G. Yes, they are expensive but, I am a firm believer in the old adage, "you get what you pay for." $107 U.S. delivered in my case.

I got the iVolution for 3G in dark blue with a gray stripe and the clip:

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m132/bug67/Miscellaneous/vaja.jpg

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m132/bug67/Miscellaneous/vaja3.jpg

I'm curious... if you have a clip on the back, when you hold the phone with the flap folded back to talk (like most people say they do), does it cause an indentation on the leather?

I finally made my color decision last night and ordered one (with the belt clip). At first I was going to go with a dark background because it was a safe choice but then I thought to myself... I always take "safe" or "conservative" choices with things like this so why not get what I really want, even if it will probably show more wear than darker colors? So I did! I ordered the iVolution Stripes with lavender for the base color, then stripes of (L to R) steel grey, baby blue, and harbor. I wanted something feminine, but not pink! I had to do some looking at other products to get a true feel for the colors (the mousepad was a great one to use), and I think the colors will blend really well in person, but in these sample pictures I think the colors are off just a little bit. Even though it estimates 20 day wait I'm steeling myself for about double that time based on what some of you have experienced.

I really wish they'd show the iPhone case preview face-on like they do for the iPod touch. Using the same colors (but, of course, the stripes scheme is different) this is how the color scheme looks for the iPod:

This was the first time the Black and Orange was available. The Black and Red came up every few weeks or so, and sold out almost instantly. They will probably do the same thing with the Black and Orange. Check out page 8, of this thread, towards the bottom and there are quite a few EXCELLENT pics of the Black and Red. That should give you a good idea on how the Black and Orange looks.

LOVE IT! Very nice! Perfect time of the year for the Black N' Orange, too! I really can't say enough good things about the Vaja ivolution Top SP case that I ordered. It's just great!

I can't say that the case will "soften up" so that it is easier to take out. I've had mine for a few weeks, now, and it's still tight! Of course, I find no reason to ever take it out of the case.
