Hey All,
I just received my replacement MacBook Pro from my MacBook Air from Apple and there is no doubt this is a power house compared to the MBA. My one thought and I am not complaining, is the Pro sure feels flimsy compared to the MBA. I guess thats the difference between a plastic case and aluminum. I was surprised that when I pick up my MBP by the side it creaks a little and you can even hear the hard drive change up. Is this normal and is just relevant to the plastic case? I still have to say though that it is an amazing piece of technology and sure lays to waste any Windows laptop I have ever used. Me likey !!!!

I did not know this. I guess it just doesnt feel as strong as the MBA, why I am not sure.

Thinner aluminum. They do feel different, I agree.

It could be painted plastic I guess.
To me, a MacBook Pro felt like plastic when I used it in Best Buy. At least, near the keyboard where the hands rest.

How does it not feel like aluminum??? The bottom is rock hard! The whole build is very sturdy.

I was told that only the outer casing of the bottom and screen is aluminum. Whereas the inner casing around the keyboard and the screen are plastic. It sure feels like it on my MBP.:)

Yes, that's what I felt at Best Buy.
The MacBook Pro is truly not an all-aluminium machine.

Maybe the newer machines are to cut costs, but my 2.2Ghz I definitely think the top (keyboard/mouse pad area) are aluminum. It is too hard to be plastic. Plus, the top is cold most of the time, unlike the MB, the plastic is always warm.

you guys got me thinking and worried that my macbook pro is made of plastic! but after some thought, i don't think it is since the strip of metal above the keyboard can get to temps where plastic would buckle. also, when the machine is off, it feels pretty cool. i think the aluminum is just very thin and feels cheap. back on topic, i would be really jealous is the next macbook pro had better build quality like the air. the current MBPs creak and don't feel sturdy when carrying it under your arm. it feels like you are pushing the middle of the screen in, making the lid warp. also, the bottom panel of my MBP, close to the battery makes a weird hollow click when i press on it sometimes, especially when the machine is warm.

Hey kockgunner,
Future shop has a great sale on Ram right now. I went from 2 to 4 gb for only $75 bucks delivered to my door and it makes quite a difference in operating speed. You should check it out. Each 2gb stick is only $34.99 plus $5 delivery.

The entire chassis is aluminium with the exception of the keys, the touchpad surface and the touchpad button.

I was obviously being sarcastic to your previous post. Of course i Know its a MBP and so as it turns out is aluminum. That still doesnt take away from the fact that its case is definitely much , much thinner than the MBA making it much more flexy and definitely not as sturdy as the Air.

I think the macbook pro has AMD processors.

anyway ha. My powerbook feels a lot less sturdy than the macbook pro's I've handled so I don't really know what you're talking about. I will say I agree that the macbook air feels like solid aluminum.

the reason the mba feels sturdier is because it's steel in some parts. the mbp is just aluminum. in the mbp redesign coming up, there is no doubt it will have the same aluminum/steel mixture.

Why does the MBP feel so cheap on the top. When I carry it under my arm it feels like the top is being pushed in and I am afraid I am going to break it.

Also, can anyone tell me if there MBP doesn't lock all the way down when you close it? Those two little hooks that come out grab fine, but the edges of the unit don't sit flush with the bottom.

Any information is welcomed....

TROLL!
Please, all the generations of the Macbook pro's have been aluminum! Go back to Dell if you want plastic!
