Firewire - iMovie - No Camera Attached

I have a Sony digital camcorder that connects fine with my PC desktop.
I tried using iMovie and the iBook for the first time but iMovie would not detect the firewire that is attached to the camcorder.


I have the camcorder set to VTR (play mode).
Turned on iMovie and clicked on the Camcorder icon next to the scissor icon on iMovie. I checked the Help but didn't help.

What should I check next. The camera is a Sony DCR-TRV520.

Something similar happened to me. Quit any applications that use FireWire, particularly iTunes.

If unsure, disconnect all FireWire cables from the Mac and reboot.

Now connect your Camcorder and run iMovie -- or vice-versa; the order should not matter.
