I don't know why, but I get annoyed having to hit the home button so much. I wish there was maybe a home button or back arrow on the touch screen.

I don't see why the touch interface can't be used 100% of the time if someone really didn't want to use the button beyond waking it up.
 
hmm, I must not have been clear.

In addition to the current home button, I would like an onscreen button to bring me back to the home screen. Meaning, I could use either touch screen or the physical homebutton, and in some cases would have to use the real home button obviously.

Just another option for touch screen home button functionality. Get it?

a gesture would be best.

like drawing a counter-clock wise circle or something
 
A gesture would be cool. I just find myself wanting to tap somewhere up top or something rather than to have to keep clicking, just seems more intuitive at times, depending on what you are doing of course.

Plus less strain on the little button.
