It's just a package, try unzipping it with stuffit expander

I've been having the same problem. I'm a totally MB newbie so I looked it up and apparently stuffit expander should open *.sit files... yet when I try to open them I get a textedit file full of weird characters. I still don't know what's up!

It's a StuffIt Compression. All Mac's can decompress SIT files. If you're having trouble download the free StuffIt Expander. Not sure of the link but just Google it and you'll be good to go.

.sit files are compressed files, like .zip files. They can be opened by StuffIt Expander (http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/stuffitexpander/index.html). If StuffIt cannot open it, or if it appears corrupted, it's possible that the file didn't completely download. Try deleting it and downloading it again.

You install it, then double click on the sit-file. If that doesn't work, right click the file, choose "Open with..." StuffIt.
