I just bought a mac book pro

2.4GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB 667 MHz Ram

It was used and I am trying to restore it to factory but I do not have a start up disk. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should/can do? Also I am a new :apple: Mac User :apple: So any information to help me figure this out would be awesome. I appreciate it!

Buy a retail copy of Leopard and boot from it. Tell it to "Erase and Install".

Do you by chance know what the price is?

Around the £80 - £90 mark if in UK or around $130 if in US

Select HDD icon on Desktop and press Command + I. HDD capacity will be shown in window (panel General).

You could also go here:
:apple:-->About This Mac-->More Info…-->Serial ATA

and it should show up like this:

Depends on how much you paid for this computer, it looks like a solid computer; so just get the Restore DVDs and you'll be set.

You could should probably upgrade the RAM to 2GB or more.

If it's a 17", it's only expandable to 2 GB of RAM anyway.. if it's a 15", it's likely expandable to 4, but only 3 will be addressed.

1GB is really enough, I'd guess, for what you're going to do (though maybe you do heavy Photoshop, if so, obviously you know you'll want more).

It kind of does sound stolen, though.

I ended up crashing it I think... see post Lost Passowrd on Macbook Pro, Can I get past?

Its stuck on a blue screen every time I turn it on it goes to select a language and then after that goes to a blue screen and sometimes the cursor wil show up and then will turn into a circling rainbow and seems to like flash the screen and loop.

I bought it for 600. Pretty sure it is stolen :( cuz I been trying to get the disc from the guy and the password and he says he got it from someone else. Now he wont answer my calls.

I am just going to go buy leopard and start from fresh. It is a 15 inch. any idea on how much it would cost to upgrade the RAM? Would I have to reinstall the OS?

Sounds like you have the same one as me. You can get RAM from HERE (http://www.omnitechnologies.biz/cgi-bin/store/cp-app.cgi?usr=51H4309251&rnd=5522207&rrc=N&affl=&cip=75.19.72.65&act=&aff=&pg=cat&ref=Macbook2&catstr=HOME:A57:applelaptopmem:Macbook) pretty cheap. If you buy a 2Gb stick you'll max it out. Give the PRAM a zap and see if that clears up anything. Start it up holding Command>Option>P>R all at the same time until you hear the startup chime a 2nd time, then release. Oh Command = the Apple key.

Where'd you buy it? With PayPal or something I hope?

Also does it have warranty?

I did this:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2007110800450816
basically reset the users so you would basically have to make new users from scratch, but all the applications/files that were originally on there will still be somewhere on the hard disk until you delete the old users. :D

That is definitely a stolen computer. Did you buy it on Craigslist?

Wow. Stolen for sure.

You may be out $600, but I would try to find the original owner.

Couldn't you reset the admin password, look in the data on the machine, and find out where the original owner might live?

If I can get past the blue screen. But right now it goes to set language and then I chose it and it goes to a blue screen and seems to loop. (kinda flashes)

Don't know about that. A friend of mine just got one for $500. It's an older core duo 2.16ghz, but not stolen at all. I bought mine originally a couple of years ago with a cracked screen for $350. There are definitely deals out there, you just have to be careful. Some people have "enough" money and don't really care how much they sell it for.

Good luck!
