Now, the CAS 4 kit is a touch over £10 more vs the CAS 5...

Is it worth it?

As a speed freak I say it is, however knowledge suggests its a few % at best...

Im ordering tonight so quick discussion eh? 😛

I totally know what you're talking about when you say you're a speed freak!
I want every little thing that will make my computer as fast as possible
thats why i would go for the one for 10 w/e more
I probably don't need the upgraded version of the mbp (the 2499 one)
but of course.
i want the best of the best
(I HATE 17")
it's supposed to be a laptop not a suticase

Waste Of Money

Any difference in price is a waste of your money. There is no way you are going to be able to notice a difference. Been there & done that.

I went for OWC CAS 4 Latency RAM for my 2.4GHz 20"iMac - works great. I know it is only marginally faster than CAS 5 latency RAM, but it was worth it to me. 🙂

Faster in synthetic memory benchmarks or real world applications? 😛

If your time is REALLY that valuable then get a quad/octo core and loads of RAM.

Barefeats measured the Corsair and the OWC CL4 memory and they came out to about a 1% improvement in real world application performance.

The reason of course is that there are many things that the results depend on besides memory performance - hard drive, CPU, GPU, etc.
