Anyone know if it's possible to insert 3" CDs into a 12" Powerbook, for both reading/burning purposes?
I'm a little concerned that if I push it in I won't see it again...

Ha! You're a smart son of a gun for asking before doing...
If you inserted ANY mini-disk into that slot-loading disk drive, not only would you not see your disk again (unless you sold a few fingers for three digits), but your Powerbook might end up having SERIOUS issues, such as the optical drive being permanently damaged and requiring a very expensive replacement. I guarentee you that s*** is not covered in AppleCare/under warranty.
If you want the content off the disk, find a computer with specifically a tray-loading drive, then burn/network the data to your Powerbook.

As it says either in the manual or online only standard 12cm round CD's can be used in slot loading drives. If you want to read or burn irregular ones you need a tray loading drive.

While I agree the PowerBook cannot take a 3" CD, my slot-loading iMac handles them just fine.

That's interesting...
The manual specifically warns that inserting anything other than standard 12cm CDs may damage the drive. It will also destroy your warranty. Read: it may work but you're screwed if it doesn't. I certainly wouldn't put anything in my mine...

Wow, that's news. I haven't seen 12" storage media of any kind for a long time now....

Oops! I guess I'm not used to all your non-metric units! I've edited my post!

Ok people, here goes. This appears to be a common topic that comes up often. You can find information and buy adapter rings to use mini-cds in your slot loading drive here:

Thanks, I just went out and got that adapter and it did the job.
I forgot they made those things...
