I was wondering who you thought would make a short list of Antichrist candidates from your country?

Here are mine:

George W Bush
Richard Cheney
Fred Phelps
Karl Rove
Pat Roberston
Bill Gates

Here are deceased Americans that have crossed my mind:

Richard Nixon
Jerry Falwell
Jesse Helms
Ronald Wilson Reagan
Lyndon Johnson
Senator McCarthy
Meyer Lansky
John Gotti
JFK
...and many others who have been powerful, rich, popular, unpopular, charismatic, revered, respected, and/or feared.

Besides. For anyone to take it seriously you'd have to believe in said Antichrist in the first place.

This thread really serves no purpose other than to fan partisan flames, as I see it. I know that's not the intent, but everybody is a bit touchy about politics at the moment. There's nowhere for this thread to go but ugly.

i am voting for obama, but he did cross my mind

for some, he is like some sort of savior

many religious people do not believe the antichrist will be a person, but more of an idea, or a government, and those are just as valid theologically

i believe, like in the movie, "the omen", that it can be a us president or a major advisor, especially since there are no other superpowers left

if the antichrist is a person, i seriously doubt he will come from bhutan or iceland ;)

This thread is really stupid. Are you that much of a fanboy of Apple where you think Bill Gates is an anti christ? He is a great guy, a great businessman, and is one of the pioneers of modern day computing. I may not like what his company has done in recent years, but hats off to Bill.

I was a Microsoft field tech and made good money so I am not an Apple fan boy. Sure, I like Apple better than Microsoft but both companies make useful products.

Mostly, if there is an antichrist living here, which may or may not be the case, it could be someone who is popular and/or powerful.

Sometimes my tendency in reading what John of Patmos wrote would lead me to believe that the antichrist has to be evil, yet smart. That kind of rules out our president then. :)

An invention of the Mad "Saint" John, holed up in his island fastness of Paphos writing lunatic tracts a very long time ago.

You peaked my interest, so I read what Wiki had to say. I heard the term used before, but it was from the mouth of someone I considered pretty shaky, like Hagee. It sounded like a way for some christians to put a sinister name on someone they do not like. The fact that the OP wants to tag a number of low-lives with this name, makes me wonder if a great number of people just assume this thing/person exists?

Lee was correct:

"This thread really serves no purpose other than to fan partisan flames, as I see it. I know that's not the intent, but everybody is a bit touchy about politics at the moment. There's nowhere for this thread to go but ugly."

Sure enough, someone applied Obama to it, and the OP used JFK. Normally, I would take grave exception to this, except I really could not take anyone serious, who actually believed this nonsense (IMHO).

that's exactly what i was thinking

i am not trying to bash one political party over the other...if the AC comes from the usa and is a political leader, my guess is that this person will be high up, and unusually popular at first

i think rev. hagee looks too much into it in a literal sense, but at least he has people thinking and talking about it

From Wikipedia:

[This one Antichrist is spoken of in more detail by Paul in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2. Paul writes that this Man of Sin (sometimes translated son of perdition) will possess a number of characteristics. These include "sitting in the temple", opposing himself against anything that is worshiped, claiming divine authority]

Come on now. There are some atheists in this country. It's more like 54% (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/lifestyle/general_lifestyle/53_of_churchgoers_say_attendance_is_growing) of the population believes in the literal truth of the bible. It's at about 75% (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/general_current_events/75_in_arkansas_alabama_believe_bible_literally_true) when narrowed down to the "Bible Belt" only.

i have usually held majority opinions here on most topics like preferring macs, not liking gw bush, and being excited about upcoming apple products

i admit i meet very few fellow democrats who believe there is an anti-christ or will be

and to be totally honest, most christians dont' believe in the anti-christ as a reality, either

it is probably one of the few opinions or beliefs i have that 99 percent of the people will laugh at or totally disagree with

that being said, i don't believe in ufo's, bigfoot, faith healers, much of the new age, the loch ness monster, or fox news :)

it is safe to say i am a skeptic

Just pointing out why so few of us dispute him too much. Again, most of it just comes from anger and/or disappointment. Can't say I blame him. I doubt DHM really thinks W is the antichrist though. I'd hope.

Though I have to admit, I wondered a few times if W was self-fulfilling the prophecy or something.

What I did was nuts using the word "candidate" in an election year. I should have mentioned the word belief or disbelief in the AC. I hope I didn't piss off any Obama or McCain fans.

Speaking about candidates, what about Paris Hilton for President? :)
