View Full Version : Time Machine. USB or FW800???

Ok so i finally got an external HDD big enough to back up my iMac but should i use firewire 800 directly on the mac or hook it up to my AirPort Extreme???

If you're concerned about speed, I would definitely use FW800. However, if you want a clean work surface, you may want to hook it up to the Airport Extreme to get it out of your way.

A HDD hanging off an Airport Extreme is slow. Direct FW800 connection will be much better. If you have more than one machine at home, you can still share the drive over the network.

FW 800 is what i did

and it is the same amount of clutter on my workspace because the airport is right next to the computer i will post a pic when i get a chance
