Hard drive won't run with Wallstreet G3

I have a wallstreet G3 266Mhz.
I installed a Travelstar 30 Gig 5400RPM drive.
It worked fine this moring - took OSX 10.2.8.
Then I put it to sleep and now It won';t start up.
I tested it and the drive works fine - but will not work in the laptop anymore - the old 4 Gig drive works fine
any ideas?

can you start up from a cd with the HD in the computer?

no - it won't with the cd either.
I read that the travelstar drive interfers withte magnetic sleep sensor - and through testing I have confirmed this :(

I am now trying to find some magnetic dampening wrapping for it - any other ideas?
