I'm helping a friend install an additional 512MB ram chip in his new iMac G4 17".

The Apple specs say: PC2700 (333MHz) DDR SDRAM expandable to 1GB; one 184-pin DIMM and one open user-accessible SO-DIMM slot.

Anyone have any tips where to get the best deal on this chip? Pricewatch.com? Some websites have it, but they don't list SO-DIMM. Is this user accessible chip the same 184-pin that everyone is selling?

Thanks in advance.

Other World Computing has some of the best prices on memory and hardware.

Try these links:

Actually, I'm more interested in finding the proper chip, not so much a good price. Other World Computing at $79 for 512 is not bad, but I've seen it as low as $52 on Pricewatch.com. Thanks for responding.

Did you try the other link? It refers to the exact chip that you were asking about. Scroll down the page and you'll find the SO-DIMM items.

I wouldn't necesarily recomend buying the cheapest chip you can find at pricewatch.com. A lot of no name brand memory is crap and can screw up your computer.

anybody know how to upgrade the 700mhz processor.

Too slow to run a couple of apps like garage band, i think, and more importantly Medal of Honor.
