How to wipe my 1st gen clean ?

Whats the cleanest way to wipe my 1st gen iphone clean so I can give to someone to do a fresh install ?

My 3g iphone is live and backed up on my laptop.

If you have iPhone Software 2.0 on your 1st gen iPhone there's an option to erase all the data (Settings --> General --> Reset --> Erase All Contents and Settings). It will take about an hour.

I'm not sure how secure it is though.

Restore iphone firmware with iTunes. This will restore your iphone to factory settings.
