4GB iPod Shuffle in the works?

I think if Apple do release a 4GB iPod Shuffle then they have to add a screen, probably a 1 line screen.

I hope not. 2GB is more than enough when you can't see what you're doing. If you need more than 2GB, you're in the market for a nano.

Doesn't 4gb kind of defeat the purpose of a shuffle, i wouldn't like my whole library (well majority, my library is 4.8 gb) on my shuffle.

At current rates of price drops and capacity bumps I could see a 4 GB iPod shuffle by 2010 or so.

By then Apple might make it so that you can click through artists/albums and the iPod will speak the various artists/albums to you. That is if it doesn't get a screen first.

2010? An 8GB flash drive can fit into a Nano. Of course a 4GB can fit in a Shuffle. I think in September you'll see 2GB and 4GB capacities for the new iPod Shuffle.

I doubt that the shuffle sizes will go any larger than 2GB, since you can't see what you're going to play and I doubt many people have 8,000 favorite songs.

No screens. 4GB shuffle is possible, for a premium, and the 2GB will become standard. If there's no 4GB model, the 1GB will remain as base.

Why would you want a screen on the shuffle? That completely defeats the purpose of such a tiny device.

Have to agree; I could never stand to have a shuffle, I like a screen and all of my music in front of me in an easily navigable interface.
I think a good idea for the shuffle would be to keep it at the current capacities but significantly drop the prices. Many people are in the market for an iPod but can't afford one; many people like the shuffle but don't want to pay for it (I know it's only $50/$70. Some people are cheap or just poor). Imagine how many more people would buy an iPod if it was just as superior a build quality, but on $20-$30. Plus, Apple might start to lose the reputation of having good products that only rich people can afford.

Whilst my gut tells me that 4GB is far too big for the shuffle, if Apple were to introduce one costing less than £50 I'd find it very hard to resist upgrading my current 1GB model. :o

The original Shuffle allowed for easy connection via USB. So in that form factor, I could see a 4GB model and use a portion as a regular Thumb Drive.

The current Shuffle requires a short cable to connect via USB. Not as convenient for Thumb Drive operation.

If we do see a 4GB model, then I would bet that we see some sort of playlist type feature.

The iPod Shuffle works fine as a 'workout' iPod. No need to worry about scratching/cracking a screen. It is definitely not meant to be a media manager like the larger iPod Classic.

Having a screen might be nice, but then there's the curse of creeping-featurism... too many features, probably half-baked and that you won't use.

Of course, Apple is at the top of the minimalist game. It will be interesting to see how the next Shuffle turns out. :)
